I bought this a while back and never performed it at all. I was going to use a change bag. Can anyone let me in on some tips they might know, or anything that might come in handy when using the effect?
...think not that all wisdom is in your school. You may have studied other paths, but, it is important to remember that no matter who you are or where you come from, there is always more to learn.

It may take some experimentation, but I went through three change bags until I found one that didn't bulge through the whole routine.

My silks are larger (for stage work) and it also has the "reversed" colors flag for an extra change; so that was my problem.

Other than that I can just say that it is a crowd pleaser!

What exactly is this? I have seen one where you can change the American flag into the Christian flag. Is it pretty much the same?

It's the same effect (routine) as the American Mis-Made Flag, except the three silks (red, white, and blue) form a Christian Flag.

You can use a "Silk Cabinet" for this if you think the routine through. At one time Abbott's made a "Church Silk Cabinet" that was decorated with a steeple and stained glass windows. I don't know if they still manufacture it or not.

Great idea Terry! (I think... I am still not quite seeing how you pull it together)

I have a silk cabinet that I bought from Tricky Rickey Henson at FCM Columbus two years ago. Mine is all wood (probably from India, but fair quality) with the large cabinet about 13" or 14" high and shaped like a stained glass window. I only paid about $35.00 when I bought it, and this past year Rickey had them again, although they were now $40.00+ for the set.

I only bought mine because I knew I had a committment for a stage show, although I really don't do "stage", I figured I could use at least one real stage type effect. And I was amazed at the response just doing the usual steps with my own patter which I described in this forum some time ago.

I can see how it would play with the mismade flag, up to a point. You could put the three silks in the cabbie, then take the mismade flag from the Large Cabinet, but that leaves you one change short for completing the effect....

Where would you go from there? How do you get the mismade flag, turned into the correctly made one?

Would you make the first change in the change bag, three silks to mismade flag, then put the mismade into the small cabbie, vanish it, and then show the correct flag in the Large Cabinet (shaped/decorated like a church?)

BroDavid:

I am a bit confused with your terminology of "large" and "small" cabinets. That being the case, I'll describe what I feel is permissable on this forum.

Also, this is much better with real silk than with the nylon/rayon (whatever material other than pure silk) that is currently made.

The cabinet I'm talking about has two hinged doors - front and back. It also has a hole on each side that the silks are pushed into and pulled out of. So if that is what we are both talking about, here is the routine.

Get large silks ready in the proper order for appearence. Place the 3 silks in the cabbie. Close it up.

Performance: Open and show 3 silks in cabbie. Take them out and close it up. Do your work and push 2 in (!), dropping the 3rd. The mismade flag comes out. Now show cabbie empty.

Pick up 3rd silk, do your work and push into cabbie with mismade flag (!). Out comes correct flag. Open and show cabbie empty.

You just have to work with the handling so there are no surprises of anything showing up at the wrong time!

Hope this makes sense.

Ok, I got it now. You are working with a single silk cabinet. I have a set of cabinets tht has one small cabinet (6 inches by 3 1/2 or 4 with front and rear doors hinged at the bottom, so you can show the cabinet empty. You put silks in to it, and then can again show it empty.

My set also has a large cabinet that is much larger and has a hinged door in front that also drops down. And the rear is open. It also is initially shown empty except for a chrome bar that goes across at the upper part of the cabinet, (and you can clearly see that bar extends out on either side of the cabinet.) After the silks disappear from the small cabbie, you walk over to the larger one, whose door is closed and was shown empty before initally and the door closed And it was sitting in plain sight a distance away, when the silks vanished. But now you open it's door and show all three silks are tied to the large bar.

So that is the context I was assuming and questioning. I now see what you mean, Terry, and agree that you could do it nicely as you describe. Thanks for idea.

God Bless
