Here's a tip for everyone with wireless mikes or other battery-powered devices in your show: Use rechargeable batteries. This will keep you from having to run to the store every other show, and from my experience, the NiMH batteries will actually perform better than alakalines.

Make sure to get an "intelligent" charger - this will cost a bit more but it monitors the batteries and stops charging them when they're full. Usually a light goes off when the battery is charged.

And get the NiMH batteries, not the older Nicads. The NiMH are a newer type of battery and work much better, plus they don't have the "memory" that Nicads had.

Then pick up a cheap battery tester from Radio Shack (the one that's less than ten bucks is fine.) This lets you check how full each battery is a few days before the show.

Since I did this, it's just one less thing to worry about.

This is very good advice, I have been doing this for years. Also another tip is to pick up a small Rapid Charger just in case you get to a gig and your batteries are drained this charger lets you charge them in 15 minutes to a Full Charge. Keep these batteries seperate from the other batteries and your Intelligent Charger as you should never mix batteries. I have done this for years and do not spend a 10th of what others spend on batteries.

My problem is that my Senheisser wireless mic operates on a 9V battery. I haven't found a rechargeable NiMh battery that has 9V capacity. Most are 7.2V only. It only works for 1 hour then I have to recharge it again.

I think this is what you're looking for.

In my experience, Maha/Powerex has been an excellent brand.

I may give them a try. I tried using rechargables a long time ago when I was in the rock group for my wireless guitar system. They did not last nearly as long as alkalines. I had problems and could not trust the batteries. It was impossible to predict how long they would last and/or when they were going to die. Needless to say, I did not use the rechargables very long. I imagine rechargable batteries have made improvements since then, so maybe it's time to give them another try.

Thanks for the tip Dan. Just like Regan, it's time to give the new 9V a try. I know that the latest brands of wireless mics now use AA or AAA size batteries.

I keep a large pack of alkalines on hand for my headset mike. The AAs are good for several performances. I check them with a battery meter, at the end of the day, to see if I should replace them. When in doubt, I replace them.

I may switch to long-life rechargeables, in an effort to go "green". I'd just keep several on hand, in case I forget to recharge them on a particular day. When I get a second laptop, or a blackberry, I may go paperless, too.
