You are sitting at a bar... what do you do to get others around you to say, "Cool, what else can you do?"
I am not looking at setting off some f paper or just shuffling some cards. I'm looking for something that's subtle but has a WOW factor.

My first thought was float something.
But I want to save that as a closer.

That is exactly what I am looking for. I used pull out some cig papers and roll my own out of invisible tobacco then change into a real one in a ball of fire. But I quit smoking 9 years ago and just recently Virginia passed a smoking ban in bars and restaurants. Thanks. Anyone else have something like that?

I have in the past while messing around used a D'lite to walk up and take some "light" from a neon bar sign look at it for a second and put it in my pocket. I have also made a rose from a napkin, which a lot of guys at a bar can do, but then have it turn red, blow it out and give it to a waitress. The use of a d'lite can be great in moderation. It is good for a quick attention getter that you can ditch in your pocket.

As you are aware the hard part is to get that fist person to stop and watch. However, there is no reason you can't just call them over. Once you begin you'll have to watch the crowed and when you notice them taking interest say something to then to let them know it is okay for them to watch. You may want to tell them to come closer to get a better look (a crowd draws a crowd).
I hope this helps.

Monty, love the rose bit. I agree wholeheartedly to use d'lite in small quantities.
ttorres, yup, that's the part I am trying to get past, that first person. Once I have that first person it just snowballs.

I like to walk round doing fibre optics looking confused as the rope dose what it dose. As this catches someone eye I go up and do my single rope routine this approuch can lead on to one or two mare tricks or more.
Another thing I find use full is say how many tricks your going to do, and as you start the last one say well guys this is the last one. I find this helps a alot.
Enjoy your magic,
and let others enjoy it as well! |

Pete think of it more as handing it out for inspection after the effect. It is only cheese if she does not like it

Perform Branded and then leave the bar.

I was at a bar Friday evening and used my D-lite. As the bartender served me a mug of beer I gave a funny look at the mug, put my fingers over the mouth and pulled the "lite" out of it and put it in my pocket. I told the bartender that I didn't order a lite beer but since he was so busy serving others I fixed the problem myself.
That's the only time I used the D-lite all evening but it sure did open the doors to performing the other effects I had with me. I didn't have to say anything else because the bartender kept telling people things like "you gotta see what this guy can do!". Plus it earned me a few free mugs of draft.
It's not the size of the wand that matters, it's the "magic" in it...

I wouldn't 'perform' while drinking. You'd be surprised how bad you can be after just a couple.
And then...you have a bad rep.

Next saturday I'm having some good photos taken by a top photographer, (well I say top, I mean my mate with a big camera) but he is good.
he's got some ideas for a main shot like standing on the rocks spraying cards all over the place! but he wants to do 30 mins in some nice bars table hopping which I'm well up for, gives me a chance to test out new material, ive ordered a load of flash paper which I will be using with branded which to be honest I cant see being topped for visual and effect wise, give it a go

All these suggestions are good at the right time. Branded you need a card selected which directly involves a person.
What I am talking about is minding my own business, but someone seeing something I am doing and say "Hey, that's cool! What else can you do?" The d'lite suggestions hit the nail on the head. The rose thing may seem cheesy to us, but most people have never seen it. Specially ones that turn color.
