I purchased a copy of The Secrets of Stage Hypnosis Revealed by Dr. James Lazzarini. This is a review of that DVD.
Technical quality: Just above amateur. This was done with one low-quality camera. There is a constant audio hum in the background. Early cuts remind me of SNL or Colbert Report imitations of bad editing. There is some very inappropriate music. Lazzarini appears different on the printed DVD, on the cover of the DVD, and in the video. Professionalism: Although Dr. Lazzarini presents himself as competent, he just misses. First and foremost, that mullet has to go! Second, he is constantly pacing forward and back for no reason, an act which is usually a sign of being uncomfortable and nervous. I had a strong desire to nail he feet to the floor. Third, he mentions that you should look comfortable and professional in order to respect your audience (good for him), but his tie is always shifted to his right making it look like he wanted to run off the stage. Was this meant to be schtick (in which case, it should be mentioned) or did nobody bother to tell him? Finally, his New York/New Jersey accent should be corrected or he should learn to work with it rather than ignore it. Information about hypnosis: Dated and obsolete. His focus on getting people on the stage who were "right brained" people was just bizarre. After viewing the DVD I went to his website. (I know. I should have done this before buying the DVD. My bad.) Although he claims on his website that he is one of the best performers in New York, most of the video consisted of one of his shows to a very tiny audience along with brief interrupting commentary. His ideas about stage hypnosis presented here were very basic and superficial. He apparently doesn't know some of the inner tricks of the trade such as having people close their eyes before turning one hand over for the book (he uses a bowling ball) and balloon test. There are no real secrets revealed here and if you have any training in hypnosis and simply saw one of his shows you could easily figure out what he was doing. Recommendation: if you have absolutely no training whatsoever in hypnosis and want a basic and superficial idea about what's going on during stage hypnosis, see if you can find a copy of this on eBay or through some second-hand source. It is in no way worth anything close to what he's asking for. If you have some training in hypnosis, just get a video of a hypnosis show, or go to see a show and you will easily be able to figure out the "secrets" Lazzarini presents in this DVD. If you are a professional hypnotist looking for additional information you will be sadly disappointed by this DVD. It reveals nothing. There are no secrets exposed. It's amateurishly produced. On a scale of one to ten, I would give this a two. |

Well written. Maybe he is one of the biggest performers in New York, Crown Point New York! (man I've waited to be able to slip in a Crown Point reference)
