I have a story that uses a small box (approx. 4"w x 2.5"h x 2"d )
Anyone know of a good smoke rising from the box on opening. Something like a wispy dry ice effect. The box is small and fragile so I don't think the ice method would work. But again I haven't tried it. I appreciate the group efforts here. Thanks. The Last Doctor ?who? :stout:

Here's something that might help you.
http://www.hocus-pocus.com/store/storefr......=9920835 Bear in mind that I have not seen this item in action and have heard that the smoke isn't all that much. I asked them about the smoke and they said it puts out about as much as a toy electric train....if that helps. Jerry .. |

You could use the old standard: Muratic acid and ammonia. The acid is usually found in pool supply stores. You can coat one part of the inside of the box with ammonia and a drop of the acid would start the smoke process in a few seconds. It was used with the old clay pipes that smoked when you put the together or ala Fred Kaps where a performer covered a brand glass with a small plate and the covered everything with a handkerchief. The performer would do a short cigarette act then take away the cloth and the glass was filled with smoke. The plate had the acid on it and the glass was coated with ammonia... or vice-versa. when the two came into contact the fumes would mix and you would get smoke. Warning: there is a chemical smell to the smoke, much like ammonia. And depending on the material the box is made up of you might see a degradation of the box's walls. Be careful when you play with chemicals.
Good luck.

Muriatic acid is also known as hydrochloric acid. The ‘smoke’ given off is actually a white salt - ammonium chloride. Apparently this is also found deposited around the mouths of volcanoes such as Etna and Vesuvius. Interesting huh?
Okay, just me on that one then... Cheers, Matthew Blackwell |

I am not sure if this will work for anyone, but:
Na2O2 + H2O ----> 2NaOH + On + energy(heat) If you want the direction, I did post them in another group. I am not sure, if it is allowed to post here. This is not a magic trick persay, I got it out of a science book. kevin |

Thanks for the responses and the information.
This is enough to get me off my backside and get this effect working. If anyone has any other information, feel free to use the private message feature. Thanks again. The Last Doctor. :stout:
