I am having a severe case of "music" writers block in my planning of the metamorphosis illusion. While the practicing is coming along well, I honestly don't know what music. I'm going for the upbeat, sexy type of presentation, and the only thing that comes close to something I like is Prodigy's Firestarter (an instrumental version). Any suggestions?

The easiest way to plan music for the illusion is to decide what YOU want to say with the presentation. Decide on your theme and your storyline and then the style music that is needed to go with it will make itself clear.
Also, look at the rest of your show and see if there are any feelings you are missing. Is your show all slow and mysterious, all upbeat and dynamic, all comedy and patter stuff? If so, maybe add a contrasting piece. You should strive for a well balanced show. Contrast and texture is very important. Good luck!

Hi David,
Thanks for your reply! This number is actually being performed as a stand-alone piece. I am a guest in someone else's show (it's a dance show, not a magic act). Usually, I am actually inspired by music that I hear. Sometimes I hear music and it makes me think of an illusion or piece of magic that would go well with it. I'm still looking for the song that is 'just right' for my metamorphosis... I am very new to that illusion so it is an exciting journey overall! -Jack |

The original version of Mission Impossible was used when, I first started doing this in my sets....
The very last note is the "Ta~Da" changeover....you have to edit it to keep with your timing either shorten your switch or extend the get ready sequence.... Listen to the track and you will see that it makes sense and everyone always connects with the song...rr |

When Iused to perform metamorphosis we used Are you ready for this by 2 Unlimited.
The song was fast and that is how we performed the illusion. Instant switch instead of the three count. |

I agree with Magic 12376 about the 2Unlimited song. It's a very good illusion song, I have used it extensively in the past myself. Unfortunately, it's highly used by people in our business & might not be the thing for everyone. But it is easily recognizable by most of the general public.

Hey guys,
Yeah I think I know which song that is just by you having named it. That would be a pretty cool song to do the illusion to. However, as an update, I have chosen a song -- one I did not think I was going to use, but nothing else that I heard really "clicked," so I made a decision and went with... "Galaxy Bounce" by Chemical Brothers. I'm sure the version I have must be some kind of re-mix, but its all instrumental and has lots of good mood changes and beats built into it. If i'm able, i'll try to post a video of it when i'm done so you guys can see the final result. Thanks again for the input... off to find that 2Unlimited song.. --Jack |
