`Hey guys....need some input on this illusion I am working on. I am trying to get a Bicycle playing card to burn. here are the rules. (1) it has to burn slow, so no flash cards(2) there have to be ashes left(again no flash cards) I wanted to post it here because I didn't wanna run off with a deck of cards and a gallon of gasoline. I am actively looking for a SAFE way to do this online but maybe some of you veterans can lend some advice here. IF THIS VIOLATES ANY FORUM RULES PLEASE SOMEONE SAY SOMETHING BECAUSE I DON'T WANNA BE IN TROUBLE OR GET ANYONE ELSE IN TROUBLE-THNX Nemic

Sorry but I don't get it, it cant burn fast and it need ashes?
So in other words, just burn the card with a lighter? Or are you talking about a card spontaneously igniting? Gary |

I'm sorry that's a mistype it needs to burn fast, but not quite flash paper fast....try lighting a bicycle card w/ a lighter and you'll see what I mean...sorry about the confusion.

Under what conditions will this be?
Is it possible that you could print the card on regular paper and make a switch? Regular computer paper should fit your needs, especially if you can by with tearing the card in half or quarters.

The illusion is simple, it's kind of an updated version of torn and restored. they freely select any card and sign the face of it, it's taken and folded into forths and burned, the ashes are placed on a table and the deck is slammed onto them and turned over to reveal their signed card covered in ashes. me and a buddy are working on it, and we have everything covered EXCEPT the burning of the card, which is obviously the "meat" of the trick. Thanks again for the input guys-Nemic

Nemic,
If your familar with how to split playing cards, you could split them into one thin card, force the double, burn the thin one. You could also split a normal card and insert some type of paper between the layers, I'm not sure if this would handle your needs or not. I've never tried it. Just an idea.

I think my idea would work for you then. You might need a cardstock that is a bit heavier than regular paper. Have them put their card on top, secretly add your feke to to that, use a DL to show thier card card and then tear up the feke....

That's was the thought behind it drew, all I need to do is print to scale the back of a bike card on a piece of cardstock. do a leg turnover (like in ACR) and load the signed card from there. WOW! thanks again guys you are all awesome-Nemic

Well, my response to the problem was all theoretical, but since the spec won't be touching the card after it is signed, it shouldn't be an issue. It may take some experimentation with the right stock, but it should work just fine. If not, he's one step closer to finding out what WILL work

How about seperating the card and putting flash paper in the middle of it?
|
Nemic386 Regular user Pensacola FL 181 Posts |
That was one of he avenues I was thinking on....but the problem was being able to seperate the card, not to mention I was worried about having the paper burn and be stuck looking at a card, I guess the question would be will it be enough to ignite the card IF I coul even get it too split?

Rather than a signature, what if you did a corner match instead? I realize the torn corner matching isn't quite as strong, but it would make the handling a whole lot easier.
The method I have in mind can't be talked about here, but PM me and I'll give you some details.

The corner match is ok I suppose but I REALLY want ot make the burning part the main focal point. I think that in itself would be way to impossible to believe...not to mention make it exxecissively powerful in the layman's mind.

Well I'm one more step closer to solving the riddle. I went to Kinko's and had high resolution color copies made of the backs of the cards on stock paper and cut them out. They burn a lot better but still have a small issue w/ holding the flame long enough to burn completely through. I practiced with a few dummy cards and on the two occassions I've performed it, I pulled it off witout a hitch and the effect looked clean and not to mention the "WOW!" factor of the lay people.
Thanks again guys for all your input-Nemic

Lighter fluid and a small pail or ashtray should solve your problem

Yeah it would work, I just hold a bic lighter up to it with the flame ignited and it burns well enough to work, of course the obvious issue is IF it isn't completely burned what piece is left behind is questioned by a heckling spectator. But I have found that the dummy cards work so well due to the fact they don't take a millenia to burn. As always gentlemen, I thoroughly appreciate all of your input and time.-Nemic

I GOT IT!! HOORAY FOR ME!! WOOT-WOOT!! lol...I was thinking to confined I suppose. My flaw was trying to fold it in quarters and trying to burn it. I decided to fold the dummy card in half andlighting the corner. I then set it down and it opens like a pup-tent and allows the oxygen to go thru and burns perfectly. I went to a local ber I frequently perform at and did it. The reaction was unanimous and it looked AMAZING. If any of you would like to know more about it, I don't mind sharing in a P.M. Thanks again for all of your input-Nemic
