Yes, Doug, It had all kinds of pitches in it too. Plus old ads from Amusement business Magizine( Boy I miss that magizine, I couldn't wait for it to come out each week. It had the routes of all the shows in it. I also have two other Boles books, Midway magic and Midway Showman. All of the books had the comical Getting Along section in it.
He always said to Stay clear of the electrician on rainy set up days, he said 'THIS HAIRIED MAN IS PRONE TO SHOCKS AND HARD TO GET ALONG WITH HAHAHA" You best thing to do is go to bed and get out of the way" hahaha I got these in the 60's and they did have a lot of good advice in them, just the same. Oh YES, by the way, I paid Morris Costumes of Charlotte, NC around 4.00 each for the books new in the 60's. A good investment I must say!!!

You can still get Boles' Midway Showman for $10 at http://www.midwestmagic.net.
I've been looking for The Compleat Pitchman for a while. People just aren't selling them.
It wasn't the brightest thing I've ever done in my life. Sadly though, it was far from the dumbest.

Curator, Alibris tends on the high side for books. You should try searching http://www.bookfinder.com. They will give you price from Alibris and a bunch of other sites.

I absolutely despise the Sham-wow commercial. I actually think it's a pretty cool item, but thanks to sham-wow guy, I will never buy one. It reminds me too much of the building I always try to avoid at the county fair.

Magicman97: Thanks for the Welcome
Critter: That is exactly the building I look for at the county fair. No better learning experience than watching a good pitchman do his job. Even if you are not selling, you can use some of those crowd handling techniques in your performances.

If you ask Penn Jillette how he learned to talk, he will tell you that it was from watching the water-less cookware demos at fairs. Unlike the short pitches for shammies and slicer/dicers, the water-less cookware is a long pitch and goes for a heavy touch. It is almost a mini-jam auction.
