Every Wednesday or so a bunch of magic and mentalism guys in my area get together to hang out and swap stories. It's always fun but last week was a special treat... because Christopher Taylor showed up with a prototype for his new effect: Eclipse.
</start hype> Some of you may be familiar with Equinox, Mr. Taylor's electronic version of the classic mentalism effect Kurotsuke. Eclipse is the same effect, but instead of spectators plucking balls from a bag, this version uses a coin purse and a number of coins. Perfect for parlour or strolling situations. Four or five (or more!) spectators pluck a coin from the purse, and the performer, without touching or coming near the coins or the bag, is able to determine which spectator has the odd coin. Same totally hands off, super clean handling as Equinox. There was one magician there, unfamiliar with Christopher's work, who was completely baffled. And why wouldn't he be, everything is so innocent looking. Those of you who are familiar with Christopher stuff know the quality of his work and his customer service speaks for itself. But in the interest of full disclosure, I know Christopher and consider him a friend. Start saving your pennies. </end hype> best

Unfortunately, I have to concur.
The reason I say "unfortunately," is that I already own Equinox, but after seeing this in action, it most certainly conflicts with my self-imposed moratorium on magic purchases! Very compact and clean. Christopher's presentation was also terrific. Oh, and in the spirit of full disclosure, I know both dmoses and Christopher, but am taller than both of them (but not if their heights were combined - which is probably a good thing as that would be quite freakish)! e e |

I was lucky enough to be there for that same demonstration with DMo and Eric, and it baffled the heck out of me as well. Great stuff.

Good news and not-so-good news. Good: The pre-sale price of $250 is being extended by a couple of weeks. Not-so-good: the gentleman who is gimmicking the coins for me (he is a genius!) has informed me that there will be a delay in the delivery. It looks like Eclipse will not be able to ship until closer to the end of the month.

are you going to gimmick coins for other countries as well? Magnetic coins of various currencies are available from magic dealers. Virtually any of them will work. In addition, I believe Alakazam Magic in the UK will be offering a gaffing service for other coins and poker chips that you send to them or are readily available. All the best, Christopher |

I have received a good number of inquiries about a more "modern looking" coin holder for use with Eclipse (Alan Weston - aka westo- being the most insistent). As a result, I am willing to see if there might be a preference for it (another idea of westo's). I have attached a photo of both sides of an alternate coin holder I have found works very well for you to check out and comment on either here, by pm or email (inf@taylorimagineering.com). The cost would be the same for the two units.

This looks like it might be a little easier for the participant to remove a coin (a little more roomy?)
I like it. |

Thanks rowdy. I think it might be a bit roomier. Cheers.

Yeah, I've preordered, and like the new photo as well, though tough to tell. Wish I lived closer so I could actually hold them in my grubby little hands.

I know it must be hard for someone to release an effect that they have spent tons of time on and made their 'Baby' and then had others give their 'constructive criticisms' here and elsewhere.
So for Christopher to go ahead and offer another alternative is a testament to his great customer service. Christopher, your a top man!! Thank you.

Well, Christopher did turn down my idea/suggestion to change the coin purse into an oversize retractable wheeled backpack....some nonsense about it being "a little big"
Seriously, you can count the people one one hand in this business, who go above and beyond to offer consistently extraordinary customer service (including well after the purchase is made). From my experience, Christopher tops that very short list! e |

My Eclipse arrived yesterday!
It is a beautiful piece of work. I ordered the "new Coke" version, and I'm glad I did. There's a place for Biz cards and bills as well as your coins... very functional... and totally innocent. Not that there's anything difficult to assemble but the instructions included were crystal clear... (Christopher even forwarded a video to help) In addition to the kit and instructions there were a couple of additional routines included, including a clever variation on "Free Will"... along with an additional coin to perform it! Classy. Can't wait to try it out this weekend. Great work Christopher, and great service as always. Dave
