Hmmmm...I think maybe I have poked at the perfect hornet's nest. Watch Tommy's video and you will understand PERFECTLY what is going on here.
I must admit that I am perfectly creeped out by the lack of humor. It give me shivers. Really, I am not trying to pick a fight. That would be silly. 'Cause you have already lost by allowing me to engage you. |

Hey, Mo and Jack...
No offense, but are you both unable to see the irony in your p*ssing contest as it relates to the topic of this thread? Just a page earlier, Lawrence was (justly) commending folks for their civilty and coming together, and then you two hijack it and turn it into a pseudo-grown-up version of "My dad can beat up your dad." So, I gues in a way I should thank you for proving the OP's point. But I (and I'd wager just about everyone else) would rather you took your exchange to Pm's, emails, or the parking lot in back of the bar. BTW< for those in the peanut gallery, that was me being an "Internet Tough Guy."

Hehe... The question of "Net Rage" has recently been asked of New Scientist magazine in the "Feedback" section, with some interesting discussion and points being made by some of the nerds over there

Question: When a thread or topic is started on a user-generated forum on the internet, it isn't long before one of the contributors makes a seemingly unprovoked attack on a total stranger. What is it about non-face-to-face contact of this kind that makes this more common than it would otherwise be? My favorite answer to the question was: Quote:
What a stupid question, you total and utter.... ;) Seriously, some of the real responses to the question are worth a read - the serious answers seem to deal with the lack of cues such as tone, facial expression and body language. ObM |

Drew reminds me of one of my favorite Terry Pratchett quotes.
“Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.” In this one case Drew indeed seems to be the light.

Wow that's a magic quote Danny thanks.

Danny,
I knew there was something I liked about you. Nobody that reads and quotes Pratchett can be a bad person. I did find the Mo/Jack interaction very entertaining and educating. I would like to thank you both for such a wonderful demonstration of exactly the kind of behavior this thread is about. Even if it was just goofing around on at least one participants part. I do agree somewhat OBM that some posts are simply misinterpreted due to lack of ability to convey emotion via keyboard. But there are an equal number that are just people being jerks. |

I personally have only seen the ones in this topic. Therefore, I know nothing about you or your sense of humor or when or if you are trying to be funny or being dead serious. Further, a smilie can mean everything or nothing at all. Plenty of people have used them in an effort to make it appear that they were posting tongue-in-cheek, when in actuality they meant every word. That becomes apparent within the context of their overall posting. And as I said, with 16 posts, there is no way for some of us to know how you tend to use them, because you haven't posted enough yet for us to know your tendencies. It seems that some here know you or were able to read your intentions. I was not. Regardless, whether in seriousness or jest, baiting someone else in an effort to get them fired up does not seem to me to be helpful, is still ironic within the context of this topic, and still violates the rules and etiquette of The Magic Café.

Well now, Doug, let's not be hasty. I didn't realize it was a compliment, what with the topic and all.
I guess I can like being "rather" handsome, so long as you don't think I belch. I hate people who belch, and self-hate is an ugly thing. By the way, you did notice the pretty lady hanging from my torso, yes? a miracle, Photoshop... I almost hate to ask, but is Foster Brooks alive? I'm with Scott on the "baiting" thought. It would also help if we could all be slower to engage that sort of thing when it is thrown our way... Easy to say. Anyway, thanks for the compliment, Doug! I feel great! Jim

Foster Brooks is dead. He died in 2001. He had a great schtick that would probably not be allowed today because of PC. He made me laugh!

Don't worry, I have no expectation that you will do anything other than continue to prove to yourself how clever you are, as you have always done in the past. Are you convinced yet? As for the rest of you, this thread came pre hijacked. Now that is irony. |

Foster wouldn't have given a crap about PC...it would have egged him on. Who would 'not allow' it? Screw them who ever they would be.
Jim, he didn't 'belch' but suffered from severe gas bubbles when form.....ing words...haha. He and Dean Martin were a pair to watch. (Dean also was not really hammered on the tube...anymore than Jack Benny was a cheap skate or Bobcat was skitzoid or methed-out.) Great characters all.

What did I do??? If you have a problem with others or your own ego, that's your problem J-S. But as to "the rest of you" as you put it, I didn't do anything except read your rather confrontational remarks and until now ignored them. I always figured from what I have read in your posts that you have enough problems without me saying anything! So please keep your rather arrogant stereotypes to yourself sir. (said with a pleasant voice and without any attempt real or imagined at being a tough guy, thank you) And Doug, you're right. Here's to Foster Brooks! |
