I did the introduction thing. If you didn't like my answers I can just make stuff up.
I'm picking up a very confrontation vibe from you, that's not what we do here. I do not wish to take up space over something dumb, there's room for another prodigy, if you'd like to use that moniker, I don't mind. I thought I was giving magic jared some advice, he read the first few replies and said thank you, and then my post was singled out and discredited. I guess you know a lot more then everyone else does. |

Yeah, you did do an "introduction thing", you didn't tell anyone anything about who you are.
I don't care that you do weddings and kid shows and whatever else you can get, I want to know your name. So, I realize you're baiting me and for some reason I just can't avoid asking, "How long have you been The Oddity Prodigy?" What makes you think I know more than everyone else?

I certainly don't think you know more then everyone else, but I think you might think so.
Why would I think that? Because you were quick to discredit anything I said here even though it was non-confrontational and I believed it to be good sound advice. And, because even though I wrote up an introduction post as asked, its not good enough for you and you think you know who I "really" am. Maybe I should post my SS# and the alarm code to my house? How much personal information do I need to post? Why is this turning into a battle? I'm finished here. oddityprodigy, out! |

This is surely a matter of common sense!
De-wick your brands for the flight, re-wick them when you get to venue and pick up any fuel when you arrive. Alternative,,,ship out prior to event all props etc,,,cased up (No fuel). Another way,,,for venues which you have a run with,,,double up on all props, leave them in the Country with a mate or even in storage, so that each time you return for work they are there like a good woman ready and waiting. All I wanted was your name, if you are a performer, why do you have an issue with letting your peers know who you are?
I feel like you are hiding for whatever reason. I never discredited your suggestion, I just made it clear that I did not like it. You even asked if you were right or wrong. I certainly don't know everything, but what I can tell you is this; When I talk about something, I make sure I know what I'm talking about. If I don't know something, I ask. So again, What's your name? Brett.

For fire eating torches I use cheap but fancy shish kabob skewers from Target. They have a metal wrapped handle and look nice but aren't too large. I have four or six of them. I use virgin cotton for my wick that I buy in a giant roll. When traveling I store the head of the torch in a little leather pouch. I also travel with a few extra fire items but all pretty small. I do allow them to dry all the way, that's why I have so many. And if they do get taken, I could make some in a pinch because I always carry extra cotton. I like my torches pretty simple and I could make some for under $5 in five minutes as long as I had my pliers, cotton, and a Walmart or Kmart, or Target.
Juggling torches I have never flown with. Always shipped or drove. Big money juggler Michael Goudeau gutted his chainsaws and replaced the heavy engine parts with an electric R/C car motor. Then he uses sound effects of a chainsaw motor. Lighter saw and no gas to mess with. He spent a bundle in R & D. Will |

How did Michael deal with the fact that a motor running a chain causes extra velocity within the piece and spins differently? Sounds like an expensive gaff that is too obvious. The chainsaw juggler I worked with is Mario Ferreria and ONLY does the real deal. Reminds me of when customers come into my shop asking for clip on magnetic earrings.
I still can't (for the life of me) figure out why ANY performer would want to remain anonymous. In my experience with professional performers (those not booked for Bar Mitzvahs), we go out of our way to let people know who we really are. But, if I were to have gone through male pattern baldness at the age of 16 I probably would want to stay hidden too.

Goudeau does a lot of traveling and what he came up with solves a very real problem of flying with a chainsaw in your luggage. It is a problem that many have wrestled with. Maybe it is not pure, but it is a very good solution. I'm sure it took some time to get used to juggling these, but that is his job. Goudeau is a very creative guy, a great juggler and a good friend.
