Hello all,
I was interested in levitating stuff, where you normally use invisible thread for. My question is, I have no experience at all with IT. How shall I start learning? I was interested in Yigal's Tarantula, and now I also read about the (much cheaper) Master Levitation system, which looks fantastic too. What shall I do? Just buy normal thread, cheap dispenser and wax or can I also start with Tarantula/Master Levitation system. And can someone tell me more about the Master Levitation system? Thanks in advance, Sander |

No experience?
Get Ammars ETMTM or LeClairs Whos Afraid of IT.
I am getting so tired of slitting the throats of people who say that I am a violent psychopath.

If I bought one of these, what do I need more? Only thread and wax?
Edit: Whoops, just saw this at Who's afraid of invisible thread: Comes with a free starter package of invisible thread and specially compounded flesh colored putty so you can start performing immediately after learning the techniques. But still, what do I need more if I bought the ETMTM? Do I need loops? |

Hi Sanderr:
Take baby steps. Loops are used for completely different effects. Get a "cheap" starter kit and see if you like thread work before going any further. Jim |

I read about The Tarantula and after seeing it, I was very interested in buying it. Same with the Master Levitation System by Steve Fearson.(Which are similar I believe) But I also learned that if you have NO experience with "I T", which I don't, you will have a lot of difficulty with The Tarantula. I think I will stick to learning the Hummingbird Card, which I've had for a while and have not used yet, and other type things like that instead of jumping into advanced reels and stuff like that.
And somebody correct me if I am wrong about The Tarantula being difficult to use if you have no experience with "I T" and I will consider buying it. |

You have been well advised. Some like the Tarantula some don't but before you get good with IT I wouldn't bother joining in the fray. Get LeClair or Ammar and some IT and wax and get comfortable. you can buy some loops pretty cheaply and play with them -- haunted deck pretty easy to do and fun with loops. All of the above will cost you less then a Tarantula if you shop wisely. Then IF you decide IT is something you really dig and want to do a lot then look into some of the various ITRs available -- I would get a cheap one and just play with the idea. If you still dig it, and want to do more you can make a much more educated decision about more expensive equipment like Tarantula.
It is always tempting to buy yhr coolest new gimmick thinking it will somehow make you better, learn faster etc. Generally though (and specifically with IT) that is simply not the case -- learn the stuff then decide how much you like it. Also chat with folks like Jaxon who have provided a lot of good information here. Hope that helps. |

Here's a small Ebook I put together on the basics of IT work. Go ahead and download it (free). I hope you find if helpful.

Just a quick question- I have "Box Monster" by Nathan Kranzo. That's relitavely simple to do. Is that similar to "Loops"?

If you are dying to play with loops, and it sounds like money not that big a deal to you, just go buy a pack of Loops by Mesika (probably cost under $15 and it comes with a little pamphlet on how to do some basic stuff. Sorry for not being more specific but I never know what would count as exposure so try to be careful.

I only thought about the loops because with the description of ETMTM it says they also do stuff with loops. If I get Who's afraid of invisible thread, I already get some thread and "putty" with it, so I don't think that's a problem.
And thanks for the E-book, I didn't read it yet, but I will, it looks good! |

There are many types of IT. Depends on what you want to perform.
IT only - usually used with wax ITR - IT in reel Motor ITR - IT reel with motor e.g. Tarantula, Spider Pen IET - Elastic IT e.g. Loop IT Hookup - how to setup IT The all have slightly different applications and tricks. Some can achieve simular effects. |

Is there any difference in tricks possible to perform between these types?
If so, what difference(s)? |

This is a great thread. I've been wondering the same question and was thinking about buying a box of loops to see. But I also found a really really good deal on tarantula, so was wondering.
Cheers- keep this discussion going |

So for the ETMTM Dvd, what do you need to use it properly? Only thread, or also loops, elastic thread, a reel, etc?

I personally don't care for loops that much. I'm not saying you can't do some cool things with them, but you're very limited with loops.

Yes, but if I buy ETMTM, does only thread and wax do the job too?
Because if I read the description, it says the DVD is about normal thread, elastic thread, loops, reels, etc. |

I haven't seen it so I can't comment on that too much. But if it goes over all that to some degree then I'm sure you could learn something from it.
I wasn't suggesting that Elastic isn't good and useful. Just my personal preference goes to non-elastic. What I don't like about most elastic loop effects is how you have to stay so close to the object. You also have less control over the animation. If you move non-elastic one inch the object will move one inch. With elastic you can't be that precise. But like I said. It's just my personal preference and the reason behind it. Ron Jaxon |

Michael Ammar ETMTM vol 1 and vol 2 are great materials. In the videos, Michael will cover all aspects of IT, IET, ITR and various setups. I'll sugggest you to watch the video first, then determine what style of magic fit you most.
I would not recommend you to buy Tarantula at this point. Tarantula is a great product, but if you are new to IT and not sure if this is the path to follow, I'd not recommend you to fork out the money for this device. There are many Tarantula videos in youtube that the "Magician" all seems like having a car accident and broken his arm. For Loop, the good thing for Loop is you can carry it around all day with people surrounding you without noticing a thing. You can at any point perform the magic without any setup. Because of the nature of Loop, it is very hard for people to figure out the "setup" since things are not hanging from above as most people expected. However, as it pointed out in previous replies, the application of Loop are limited. These are some of the pros and cons. |

Ok, thanks for the help.
I think I will buy the Dvd vol. 1, watch it, and then see what I buy. |
