By this I mean if there are say 30 or more pages of posts and I read through around 5 or 6 pages and have to leave the computer and come back at a later time and wish to start where I left off or skip ahead how do I go to say page 18 when it is not listed? As our list has a few low pages then a few high pages and nothing else. example: pages listed...1, 2, 3, 4,...26, 27 28, 29 30. How do I go to page 22?
thanks John (acesover)
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000

There is an easy way, depending on how good you are with math. Each page is 30 posts. To go to page 22, multiply 22 by 30 and subtract the first 30. Then, in the page address, change the "start=" value to 630.
Somebody kick me off the computer, will ya?

Gene,
Thanks for the info. It is not difficult, but I think that there should be an easier more straight forward way to navigate through large pages of posts. Of course that is my opinion and we know about opinions. Ok lets see now I am going to page 33... 33 X 30 = 990 minus 30 = 960 go to the page address and change the start by reducing it by 30...Oh heck never mind I won't read it. thanks again John (acesover)

John, you're correct, it is not that difficult. The only part you have wrong is the last statement. You don't reduce the page address by 30, you change the start value which is the last number in the address to the page address. In your example, you would change the last number in the address to 960. That will take you directly to page 33.

Thanks to both Dave and Gene. I started to use it and found out the mistake you pointed out. It is easier than I thought.

I picked this thread to experiment with because it has 147 pages of posts. I also understand that to go to page 100, I must first make the calculation 30 times 100 = 3000 and then I subtract 30 (i.e. page one's 30 posts) from that total. Hence, the start value for page 100 would be 2970 (i.e., (30 X 100) - 30 = 2970). Yet, when I change the last number in the address bar from 2&4403 to 2&2970, and then press "GO", nothing happens. I still stay stuck on page 1 of the thread. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the info. Mike

It should look like this: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=181702&forum=2&start=2970. I started on page two and added the 2970.

If you srart on page 1 of a thread, the word "start" does not appear in the URL; it is only on page two and beyond that the word "start" does appear. Hence, I have to add both the 2970 AND[i]if starting at page 1 of the thread]/i], I also must add the word "start". If trying to make my leap from a page other than page 1, then the word "start" is already I hte URL and need not be added. Thanks for that info, ChrisG. Mike

Mike, when you go to a long topic, you'll notice that you cannot click on the number 1. That's because if you click on the topic, you'll be on page 1. When you need to jump ahead, just click on the number 2 first. It saves the step of having to type start and there no real reason to go to page 1 anyway.
