Is it just New Hampshire, or New England, or the entire country.... But I'm having a hard time finding cans that this trick works on without having to put a lot of elbow grease to it. Wayne Houchin's explanation is awesome, detailed and to the point. He suggests Coke products and Pepsi products, even beer cans saying all but Budweiser cans works well with the effect. But as I try it on a variety of cans, I find very few work like he showed on his DVD. I was wondering if this is a regional thing, or if it's the same all over. Any input would be great; thanks, everyone!!

Hey Punx469,
I used to do this and never had any problem with the cans that he had suggested. I used to use diet Coke cans most of the time. I'm from Canada, so I don't know if there's a difference or not, and it's been a while since I've done it.

Hey, a fellow Canadian... You know, I am thinking it might be a New England thing, but I just wanted to put it out there and see if it was just me. Thanks

Hopefully, you can make it work. Have you tried any beer cans?

Yeah, I find Miller Light works and Coors Light, but I don't drink either often. Labatt Blue, Mic light, Bud and Bud Light don't work for sure, but I'll keep looking. Always willing to work with beer... hahaha

I just started working on this a few days ago, and I am from New Hampshire too. I purchased a case of Coke Zero and am finding that the coin does need some coaxing to go into the can. It just doesn't slide into the opening like in the DVD. And that scraping on the sides is audible, even though I think it can be covered by the opening of the can. Can't imagine if Pepsi products are worse how the coin will fit at all.

Well, I have been working on this since Feb, and I haven't found a pop can that works yet. Arizona Iced Tea can work, but they are massive and hard to handle. I have found a few beer cans, though. Let me know if you find something that works!

I think Coke uses different bottling companies in different parts of the country. In Arizona, Diet Coke cans work great; but in Colorado, they have a different tab and are difficult to get the quarter into.
I have had luck with Miller Genuine Draft Light. The can is mostly silver, and the opening is great. I don't drink much beer, but beer is less messy than cola if you are dumping it on the street or onto a lawn.

Thanks for the reply, Sammy J.
I figured it might be something like that. The mouths seem to be smaller here and makes the task difficult, especially without giving it away with the noise! I'll keep trying, though! Thanks again! |

I just performed it today for the first time for people, and I live in New Hampshire too. Let me just say that the first time I did it. I got the craziest reactions I have ever recieved, and the shaking sound of coin in can convinncer blows their minds. I shook the can up a little more than they did in the video to give myself a little more time and cover. The second time I did it today, the coin gave me so much trouble it was given away.

Yeah, I have held off showing it till I can find some cans that work well... I have a few BBQ's coming up at friends houses, and I'll just use beer cans... hope they don't mind me wasting beer on the grass... or they call me out on bringing crappy beer with wide-mouth cans. Let me know if you find any good ones, Stimuli. I would like to show this trick more often!!

I was just in Florida and performed it again to perfection with a diet coke can for my girlfriends parents at a cookout and they lost their minds. The cans seemed easier but I don't know if it was because I had more experience or the cans were different. I did note on my flight home today I had a sprite on the plane and took out a quarter and it literaly just fell right in. no pushing, easy as hell. My advise is to stick with coke product cans and shake them up a bit more for cover when you open the can. I love this effect because the reactions are amazing!!!

Not all cans are created equal. cans in thailand, for instance, do not accept coins. unless they are the small ones.
the vid recommends using quarters. but its not limited to any other coin, naturally. |

True enough Nick,
I was just curious as to the mouth openings in different areas, if it was a NH thing or a East Coast thing. But thank you for responding! Cheers |

I don't know how are the coins where you guys are from, but here in Brazil we have pretty small and pretty big coins. So you can also try to fit the size of the coin to the bottle, and not the opposite.

True enough Pedro, I was playing with this effect in New York this 4th of July week end and Coors light cans up there had no ridge on the bottom of the can, Is this a F'in ploy to screw me over on this effect?

You should of used the coke cans in New York, they work perfectly! I always keep at least one diet coke can in her fridge at all times for impromptu performances if need be! It kills, especially when they don't know what to expect when the trick begins, stay away from saying "want to see my coin in soda can trick"? It gives them the chance to anticipate the outcome, and if someone says show us the coin in soda can trick again I just wont show them because it will ruin the desired outcome. I will perform a different illusion instead.

Ya I can't stand it when people ask to see a effect, weather it's " Hey do that again, I didn't see what you did" or my wife is bad for hanging out with friends or having friends over then saying... "Hey can you do that trick, or how about this one" ruins the effect and gives all the spectators a chance to burn my hands or my pockets ect, ect. I'm just really bummed about the lack of good cans to use, yes I get I can do it with a nickle or a smaller coin but I liked the idea with the quarter, one every one can clearly see that a nickle would fit into a can but a quarter is just a good size, easy to sign and handle. But the lack of a bottom ridge on the Coors can just ****ed me off, its the best can to use hands down and now you can't use it at all... oh well
