I'm trying to find a copy of a little book called (The Great Mysteries) by Oudini. I believe it was a paperbound book published around 1908-1910? Any information would be appreciated.

These have turned up on ebay a few times in the past. In my memory, I think it was a direct copy of a book by Selby, but Kevin Connolly is the man who knows, and I'm sure he'll be replying to this pretty soon!

Me? You're too kind Mick. If Red Von doesn't have one, they do show up frequently on Ebay. There is a guy on there that has the CD Version of it he is selling. There is an edition of with a sticker in it with a disclaimer about the SAM and Houdini as I remember it.

I got send one of these by Rick Silmser a few months before he passed away. It is one of my prized books in my book collection. It is a little flimsy though so I harldy ever take it out of the plastic sleeve and NO ONE is allowed to touch it but me.

Ah, Rick Silmser. Things are definetly slower here since he's left.

No, he was a Houdini imitator. There was also female version, Miss Oudini.

That's right Kevin, Miss Undina. There is a poster with her going into the Water Torture Tank with water splashing out of the top.
Regarding the Oudini book, not only was he a Houdini impersonator, but if I recall correctly, the book itself ripped off pictures directly from one of Houdini's books! |

It is 'Die Amater Boening Koenen, that rips off Harry's pics. They are cropped so his face isn't directly viewable, but anyone looking who has a knowledge of Houdini would recognize the pics. Its is mostly rope tie material.

Found one even better tonight. This one is Empress The Female Houdini. It is a flier from 1903 and she's doing a very similar act as Houdini. She evens uses the same printer Houdini used. Even her manager is named Harry H. Mystic.

Hello Thorndyke. The pictures that I meant were not the cropped photos, but the line drawings. I particularly remember the mailbag and packing case drawings were identical.

Hereward Carrington did the exact same thing in his book, line drawings from Houdini photos. The one I remember best was the thumbcuff escape using a pair of Tower Lion Thumbcuffs.
Carrington also took line drawings from Henry Hardin's manuscript, what is interesting there is that Hardin never released his manuscript (it was discovered and released by Tom Jorgensen in the late 90's earily 00's) so at some point Hardin must have shown Carrington his manuscript.
A direct from text adaptation : The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde Starring Mickey Rooney in his final role.
