Do you have any other information, like a web page up yet? How do you preorder?
Did you dump the old 80s VHS to DVD, or is this a brand new recording? Just wondering... Thanks...

Due to a stroke suffered during my heart transplant ten years ago; I am no longer able to perform my own magic effects. So refilming them was an impossibility.
In that context , I guess you could say the material was ' dumped from VHS to DVD. BUt with digital remastering of the images, addition of bi lingual explanations and refilming of effects to enhance images on the original. THis material being performed by another in my stead. Fifty effects using only rings, ropes, silks and ribbons. Even an award winning version of the Hudson Knot; The Evanescent Knot. MUM trick of the year for 1974. My own method for stretching a rope. Yekrats. No problem, you didn't know. Besides, you did say you were just asking.
Your question gave me an opportunity to get more out there concerning the content of the DVD. Kotah |

A major error in the description of my rope DVD. An error which may force you to reconsider ordering it, . The DVD is NOT over two hours long. It is only one hour and 25 minutes in length. I had misread the info on the site and thought it said 125 minutes. Now you have all of the hard cold facts to work with.

I have seen the original video material of this, and there are extremely clever effects here. Most are not difficult. You are also seeing the effects in actual lecture format. If Ron were able to showcase himself today, he would be a superstar.
The pre-sale at $15 is too much of a bargain to miss. The 80's were a time when creativity seemed to flourish and the transition from text to video instruction was in its infancy. Ron had the foresight to chronicle his work on tape and preserve his creativity to share almost 30 years later. Ron's low key, slow and deliberate explanations are easy to follow and his vanishing loop is worth the price of admission alone. No fillers, no flashy transitions, just pure instruction of very workable material. Any one of these effects is well worth the price of admission. ----Magic Ian

Ron’s DVD arrived yesterday, and after I returned home from balloon twisting at my grandson’s birthday party, I popped it in.
Ron and I have been corresponding, on and off for over 15 years. We have never met, so this was my first opportunity to actually see him in action, even if it was from 20 some-odd years ago. Let me preface this post with a few things about me. 1. I am not, nor have I ever been a “rope guy”. Yes, I’ve done PN, C&R, LR, Rope Penetrations, and most of the standards. But I’ve only had a healthy respect for rope magic, not really a love for it. 2. When I watched the video, I was in a great deal of discomfort and drowsy from medication. 3. I suffer from hearing loss. Upon starting the DVD, I was very happy with the menu structure of the DVD, the construction and layout is user/viewer friendly. The subtitle option thrilled me, now I could read along and not miss out of what was being said, and could keep the volume down so the neighbors would not hear the secrets that Ron was about to share. Dean, the producer of the DVD introduced the volume, and it was great seeing another friend that I have yet to meet. He explained what we were about to see and the steps that were taken to improve the video quality. (This is also identified in the ad for the DVD at Leaping Lizard). The video as well as being an excellent teaching tool is an archive of historical footage of one of the greats in rope magic. In my humble opinion, Ron Dayton is to rope magic what Ed Marlo is to card magic. Next came Ron. He looked great, svelte and dashing in his performance outfit. He introduced the camera person (for the original 80’s video tape) his wife Susan, and his assistant/guinea pig, his daughter, the smiling, gum chewing and giggling cutie, Jennifer. There are 50 or so things taught on this video, too much for me to recall or take in on one sitting, so I will just mention some of the pieces that stood out to me: Imagine displaying a piece of rope, sliding it back and forth between the hands, then stretching it to twice its length. Or doing the same with a rope that is knotted into a loop. Very visual and deceptive as the hands move along the rope prior to its stretching. Now imagine a length of rope, which ends can be held by audience members, you slide your hand along it, back and forth, and wherever they stop you, a knot appears. And it is a real knot; the rope can be handed out and untied by an audience member. For me, his Rope, Ring, and Pencil is fantastic. I already have plans on adapting it for use in my ring and string routine. It is a great way to bring in a pencil for ring on and off the wand. What is it? A ring is knotted onto a cord, a pencil is slid into the knot and held by an audience member. The magician pulls on the ends of the rope (never releasing them) and the rope penetrates the ring and pencil leaving the ring on the pencil in the audience member’s hands. There are several other penetrations, through neck, body parts, and other ropes that caught my attention, as well as some amazing ring and rope as well as silk magic. As for the instruction, Ron is very clear and articulate. What may have been unclear in the video is enhanced and added as an insert during the explanation phases by the very able hands of Dean Montalbano. In short, for me, this was a fantastic purchase both as a historical record of some of Ron’s work, and as a teaching tool. It has inspired me to revisit some of what I’ve done, and to add additional material to my repertoire. I’ll be re watching this DVD (subtitles and all) picking up a bit at a time (there is just so much there). Thank you Dean and Ron. Tony Iacoviello |

I watched this DVD early this morning, and for the first time with any magic DVD, was excited to stop the viewing and find a piece of rope. Not only are there original effects for 'anybody' there are those that 'everyone' should know.
I have already received permission to incorporate one effect into a re-write of my NeckLacy eBook -- but, buy Ron's first.

I have recently acquired two items by Kotah, Ron Dayton, and published by Leaping Lizards: the book Brainstorm In My Pajamas and the DVD Ron Dayton's Historic Hung Up On Ropes Lecture.
Brainstorm is a book that provides deep insight into the creative process. Oh, there are plenty of magic effects, too. Ron gives us new looks at old effects, too, and I found this particularly interesting. He has the reader see these in a different light: the card box, the coin pail, the egg bag, the Chinese sticks, the pea can (of all things!), thimbles, the ball and vase, the rubber chicken (!), spirit slates, the rabbit wringer and more. Gimmicks abound, and Mr. Dayton explains new ways to them as well as subtleties in their use. He provides valuable autobiographical information and historical tales of magic and magicians. Not to be ignored are a number of effects from Ron Dayton's ingenious mind. These are all, as is usual from Ron, wonderful. Coins, cards, cigars, ropes, pens, thimbles and more are there. As well, he gives us mentalism effects and some that are difficult to classify. I highly recommend this book. The second item is a real treasure: Ron Dayton's Historic Hung Up on Ropes Lecture. Now, I generally am not fond of magic DVDs, although there are exceptions. I usually prefer books, but Hung Up On Ropes is an outstanding exception. Ron's Lecture is amazing! He starts with a Cut-and-Restored effect with a terrific handling of a simple and well known principle. This is clever! A second method is even cleverer and uses an unprepared rope. Mr. Dayton teaches penetrations of various sorts, with rings, silks, body parts, and more, all of which are extremely effective and well thought out. Personally, I am fascinated by knots, and Ron gives us much interesting and useful information concerning knots in magic. Milbourne Christopher's traveling knot principle is explored and Ron shows how this cn be used in many ways, some of which are incredibly beautiful. The double noose through the neck is particularly effective, and it is one I will certainly use. My favorite is the slidex gimmick. This is so simple and so useful; it is a secret that you will treasure if you do any rope magic at all. This little gimmick, that you make yourself in a couple of minutes, is so effective and simple that you wil want to slap your forehead and say "Why didn't I think of that?" I am only scratching the surface here. This DVD is one you not only want, but one that you need. If you, like I did, missed the special deal, don't worry! At twice the price this is a bargain.

I have been extremely pleased by recent e-mails from deaf / hearing impaired magicians Re: my rope DVD ' Hung Up On Ropes' Not only are they pleased with the effects , they are excited about the subtitles. The ability to read explanations they cannot hear . If you know a hearing impaired individual with an interest in silk or rope magic, perhaps you will consider mentioning it to them.
