IT'S MOUTHCOIL MADNESS! Robert Baxt, a F.I.S.M. winner for Comedy, releases his world famous handling of one of his all time greatest routines. A piece of comedy he's spent 30 years perfecting: The mouthcoil! On this DVD you will find all you need to know to do one of the funniest comedy magic routines ever seen. TONS more than we're showing in the video above! No sleight of hand, and no fussy moves are needed! A routine that’s great for close-up, parlor, or stage; kids and/or adults! With a spectator, you perform a hilarious “do as I do” torn and restored paper routine that climaxes with the production of multicolored streamers from your mouth. A routine over five minutes long that’s full of fun and foolery that will leave your audiences rolling on the floor with laughter. Comes complete with many different live shows of Robert at the famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, plus his detailed explanation with all the funny lines, bits, shtick, jokes, ad-libs and his helpful thoughts on comedy and presentation included for your education. AND FOR THE FIRST TIME HE GIVES AWAY HIS SECRET! HOW TO BLOW A MOUTHCOIL OUT OF YOUR MOUTH! CROWDS GASP WHEN IT SHOOTS OUT OF YOUR MOUTH YARDS AT A TIME My review: To start off I have to admit I am a big fan of Robert Baxt's humor, and I think he is a fresh breath of air in the world of performing effects. His stuff is commercial and it is funny and audiences like it. Ok that being said I looked forward to getting his mouth coil routine. I was not disappointed, it is a worker. Be warned this will not impress the folks at the magic club meetings. It is based on comedy and getting laughs, it has a magical climax but its the journey that is the event. One thing I liked is the seeing the routine performed both for adults and a kids audience. To see the routine in two distinctly different settings showed me its versatility. The routine is filled with gags and sight gags. It builds to a climax that is a bit different than the standard mouth coil routine. Robert then talks his way through the routine adding commentary on comedy and magic on the way. Will my routine based on this dvd look much like his when I am done? I don't think so but then this isn's a spoon fed system. Its a routine that has been polished by a performer over a long amount of time. I am glad he shared it and I plan to use the dvd to craft my own. Get this you will not be unhappy

I watched this yesterday, and love how with a little adaptation this can work for international audiences. Great stuff and I too will be working on crafting my own routine.

I was a little disappointed. The routine is fine and he performs it well, but it's nothing new. The blowing is interesting but it doesn't work every time and I didn't like the fact that you have to tear the mouth coil ever few feet. I think that takes away a little from the beauty of the mouth coil. Just my thoughts.

Baxt is funny with this dated vaudeville type presentation, and he seems to be a fine, likeable, experienced, performer. I don't see the advertised 30 years of comedy refinement.

Title: Robert Baxt’s World’s Funniest Mouthcoil Routine
Routine with instructions on DVD Arena: Stand up, kids shows What you get with World’s Funniest Mouthcoil Routine is a nice routine using the mouthcoil, I bet that shocked a lot of you. The routine is funny and actually makes a more traditional use of the coils that many routines do. The routine is a spectator comes up and a torn and restored routine ends up with a coil being produced in a funny manner. That is about it. I will say that I’m not a Robert Baxt fan. If he was as funny as he believes he is he’d be the funniest person in the world, I don’t find him funny and while I see many good aspects to this routine I thought Baxt kind of stepped all over it and it can be done better. Baxt is concerned people will do the routine as an impersonation of him and compares himself to being Elvis surrounded by impersonators. I advise you don’t try to do it like Baxt, I suggest you go for less irritation in your performance. The DVD was not shot with a great camera but it is passable, the sound is very good. The production itself isn’t at the level it should be, bad lighting and worse editing rule the day. Baxt does try to add value by giving a lot of information out about the routine. The good thing about this routine is it will work with any audience, kids will love it and adults will find it funny. If you are looking for a good routine to do with a mouthcoil then you many want to consider this DVD. |

This just got a strong recommendation in MUM magazine. It pointed out the obvious that a mouth coil is very nearly no space in one's bag and this routine could slip into any show...when a prop breaks or you just found out that you can't do your fav piece (maybe the host is allergic to lemon so Bill in Lemon is out).

I was thinking about ordering this but wanted to order the mouthcoils with it. Is there a particular size you would need? I'm a complete novice; yesterday I didn't even know what a mouthcoil was!!

I ordered the 25 foot coils from Elmwood but have not been able to get the blowing to work at all even with what I consider to be a detailed explanation on the video.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Everytime I try to blow the coil out, I blow the ENTIRE coil out. Robert does kind of explain it but he specifically says that he can't really explain it any more clearly, you'll just have to practice and figure it out. I'm wondering if he has a favorite mouth coil that he uses. After 20 years of performing this I would think he would tried quite a few and found some that work better than others. I would have liked a little more information on mouth coil use for us novices.

I use jumbo coils and they are just fine. It takes a knack to get the blowing to work but even for him it doesn't work every time. I still say there are way better mouth coil routines out there than this one. The best is Timmy toilet paper by Burgoon by a mile.

I tried the jumbo coil (46') in my last show. I could barely get the blamed thing in my mouth. Plus, the coil kept breaking due to saliva build up since the coil took so much room, it make me salivate.
I think I may try the mylar coils next time, so breakage will not be an issue. Thoughts?

Although the coil when you blow it may not work every time, I found it to be 99%, and the tearing every 2 feet is great as people think that’s it, then BAM, more comes out and I also found that when it does not work when you try to blow, it gets huge laughs, and you can play off that, I agree the video is not the best, but the content is great.

I started working on this and can't get the knack of blowing it out. I guess I'll keep trying but would like to know the best coil.

I am having the same issue and am not able to blow any of the coil out of my mouth. I have not had the issue of blowing the entire coil out which is what Robert said would happen if you did the technique wrong and were actually blowing air through the two inside holes (i.e. the center) of the mouth coil, so I assume I'm doing it correctly.
To answer your question (Humester), I bought Cresey and those are the gold standard and best mouth coils that you can buy. I didn't even consider getting mylar ones, as Robert doesn't bring this up or mention different types on the video. I am 100% positive that he is using Cresey paper coils. I didn't think it mattered if you used the 25' or 50' ones, but maybe it does matter. Maybe 25' ones would work for some people. I don't think he addressed which size/length to use. If anyone has any help on this matter, please post it here and help us out. |

OK, I gave my mouth coil an hour or so to dry out and I tried it again. After carefully examining the coil, I noticed that the 2 'halves' were taped together very tightly, so much so that one of the 2 halves had absolutely no hole in the middle. I wonder if this had something to do with my first failure. I pulled a little more paper out of the coil so there was at least a little daylight showing through both sides now.
Well, I definitely did it wrong the first blow, because I finally blew the coil completely out of my mouth. I dusted it off and tried again. Out of about 12-15 puffs, I got some paper out about half of the time. A few times, a foot or more came out. While doing so, I noticed something on my 'successes' versus my failures. If I pursed my lips down on it, basically, closing the openings in the middle of the 2 coils, blew very hard and while doing so, let go of the pressure holding the 2 coils mostly closed, it did like a 'pop' and some paper would come streaming out. I think this is very important and should have been included on the DVD. After my coil dries again, I'll try it again and see if I have continued success. If anyone comes up with any techniques like this or different ones that result in even modest successes, please post. Cheers! |

I love the routine but am struggling blowing them out. I'm using Uday mouth coils. I think the coils suck, the break apart when you pull them from your mouth. I'll order some Crest coils. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I spoke with Robert Baxt and he said use Cresey coils. He says all the other coils are not good for blowing.
