Hi, Guys
I've been experimenting in making a magic wand from wood material. This is what I came up with The final look of the wands http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q106/......e015.jpg A bit of review The background : I've been in searching for a wand which I can use with my "expensive" cups. So I decided go with wood material and since I can found wood material here, I decided to make my own. Material : I choose Iron Wood cos it's a bit heavier compare to other wood material and fairly strong The feel : I'm really happy with the final look. The weight also slightly heavy compare to other wood material and also from plastic/resin wand. I used to work with mercury wand which I think one of the best wand out there. For me, Mercury a bit heavy to manipulate since it made of full stainless steel especially to do striking vanish. With this wand I can do striking vanish easily. I can execute Vernon spin vanish as well with good momentum. I've played with it for like 3-4 days and I really enjoy played with it. I'm so happy with it Comments are welcome Cheers Andre

Andre:
The Mercury wand is made of aluminum, not stainless steel.

Those look very nice Andre! I've always loved the look of ironwood.
I'm concerned about the strength of the wand though. Ironwood is quite brittle. I've had a few ironwood sculptures which broke when dropped or bumped. I hope they hold up though, because it's such a beautiful wood to make wands from. |

Good work, I like them all.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

Andre,
It's nice to see the finished wands after seeing the "production line" photograph! I really like the "candy cane" twists at the tips, they look great. Very elegant and refined. Bri |

Ironwood is pretty tough. I made some wands up using it some years ago and never witnessed that breakage issue mentioned. I had one customer who could break a cherrywood wand in about an hour on the street. Ironwood solved his problem.
Nice work! -=tabman

I have used my Ironwood wand for years and I have been rough with it, no issues here either...

Wow, that sounds great Tabman. I don't know why my ironwood tended to break. Either way, it sure does make a nice looking wand.

It could have been caused by some kind of defect in the piece of wood itself. I had a really nice ebony wand that snapped in half because of a nearly invisible knot that went all the way through it. There was a corresponding grain line that went from one side of the wand to the knot.
Also, bear in mind that "ironwood" can be any one of several different woods. Olneya tesota (Arizona Ironwood tree), Ostrya virginiana and Tabebuia serratifolia are just three of over 100 different trees that are called "ironwood" in various parts of the world. Some even call lignum vitae ironwood.

They are nice but I think a little to long. Use the dimesions of the mercury wand..I think this is the perfect size.
