I wanted to produce a ball of fire and then have a dove sitting where the fire just was.
Not a fire from palms gimmick but something that gives a ball of fire (I hope everyone knows what I am talking about).

If anyone uses this to produce an item, what is a good version of it to buy and will it be safe for my birds if I am careful?

Thanks

DJ, I'm not familiar with a particular item to do this but I can tell you that you must be extremely careful. Timing is of the utmost concern. You don't want the bird to appear before the flames are gone, but you don't want a bare hand production either. Whatever method you use, I would practice using a substitute object until the timing was exactly perfect, then introduce the dove to the effect.

I've done this dove production for years and it works well. It might work as a substitute if you can't work out your idea.
Without going into too much detail - I throw a ball of ignited flash paper into the air and when it comes back down I catch it in my cupped hands and it turns into a dove. It may sound like the timing is tough but actually it's pretty easy. You'll have it down after a couple days of practice. Of course the paper needs to be burnt out just about the time it reaches your hands and the dove. Take Dave's advice and practice with a dove substitute at first.

Strange, I thought Flash It was a flash of light not fire (similar to a camera flash) same thing, attaches to ones shirt.

I did something similar to this with my dove tray (been out of dove magic for a while now) using a fire retardant spray on the "non-load" side of the tray I would then cut the rough shape of a dove out of a large sheet of flash paper and attach it to the black platform (trying to come up with terms that will not "give anything away") light the paper once the flash is out "do what you need to do."

Just remember, like a camera flash, your audience will be temporarly blinded by the flash so you have time between the fire going out and the production to keep you bird as safe as possible.

I have tried this with the FISM Flash. However, I can't say I was pleased with the results. Nevertheless, we also have to get pepared for the reality that more and more stages are going to outlaw live flash paper and flash powder. It is an alternative. And it can be done outdoors.

YES, that's it, like I said it has been a while. I just remember an ad for one in an old UST Magic and the descriptions are similar.

If you practice alot, finger flashers could work. And also what I do is add the sparkle additive. thus making a bigger flash without the risk of burning the dove. You have to time yourself properly.

In the first place, FISM flash doesn't even look like a ball of fire. Just use flash paper and a flint flasher or electronic thumbtip flasher. That would look like a ball of fire. Then produce your dove.

That is exactly what got Great White in trouble. Its sad, me and Jack Russel were good friends back in the 80's.
On the other hand I have to admit I am guilty of not telling also.

I've found the the fism flash is not bright enough if you are in a spot light. I did a flash paper production for a couple years, that used sparkle additive. As Michael said, it creates a huge flash. On one of my videos, I show this effect being done, and the flash is a good 6" from the bird. Be careful with this one! Have fun!
