If you will plunder through my "using" stuff sometime, you will find plastic (nylon) snaps. You 'll have to replace them every time they get touched with a hot iron. However, they make many "miracles" possible. And they are INVISIBLE!

You can check out Duane Laflins DVDs The Silk Foutain. It will teach you how to make one, produce it & perform it.You may also want check out his Silken Sequences & Steals which may be very helpful to you as well.
I started out using a 36" picture silk as my finale, which got an OK response, but now I produce a 6' butterfly silk as my finale.....much better! Mark

Levent has a great take on the fountain. He says the first silk should be big and the last but the others can be small. He uses 18 or 24 for the first and last and then 12 for the inbetweens.
Bob, where can I get some of your snaps? Jim

Jim,
Most fabric shops have them. They may think of them as transparent snaps. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Y'know....I'm not an expert.....but man, Duane Laflin used to crank out some sweet little silk fountains.
His face isn't really this long in-person!

I have seen a fountain that was one long streamer instead of multiple silks. I was planning on buying Laflins video on fountains to learn the best methods for folds and steals. Is this the best video or should I look elsewhere? Can I get the same information from a different dvd that might also have other good information on other topics as opposed to just fountains?

I agreed to produce live lobsters instead of live doves in a series of shows promoting a chain of lobster restaurants. The lack of color is bad enough. Silk fountains are very versatile props you can even make yourself. Scheme! Another source of them here on the Café is Rob Evans (RJE on the Café). Check out all you can on silk fountains. There are plenty of good opportunities. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Thought you folks would enjoy this: Check out the May 2013 issue of Genii Magazine. You'll find a new, one-handed silk fountain release I developed while working on the Chicago revival of "Barnum."

Neil: Thanks for mentioning in the article Spellbinder's realistic spring flower bouquet design that you also developed for use in the show. I made some rose bouquets for the local high school's production of Pippin recently, and after all that work, burning my fingers on hot glue, and showing them how to make the bouquets appear during rehearsals, they changed the costume designs at the last minute and so the bouquets never got into the show. Lots more magic did and it is all recorded on the Wiz Kid site for magic and theatrical posterity. I posted the photo you sent us of your giant bouquet in our "DidIt Gallery" at the Magic Nook.

Sorry about the Pippin mishap, Jim, but thanks for the nice words about the Genii article. I'm glad I could give the Magic Nook a plug: the Spellbinder flowers are quite simply the only spring flowers I would use.
Best, Neil

I use powerful nickel size magnets to keep my silks together for the fountain. One on each side of the silks.
