This sunday I will be attending a small (280) breakfast at the Ritz in San Francisco. The Dali Lama will be there. My mother was sent an invitation, and she asked if I could get some sort of a student rate ( I might be older than the typical college student, it just took some time..), they told her I could come for free.

I received this email on tuesday (in part) :

"Per the State Department's approval, we plan to walk His Holiness through the room as he enters and exists for the program. At that time, he may happen to pass the table where you will be seated. It would be appropriate to put both hands together in a prayer position as he passes. We never know what His Holiness will do. He's quite spontaneous in a crowd."

Anything you guys want me to say to him? I was thinking of bringing a deck and trying to get his autograph, but Im sure id get shot.

You're a lucky man Kevin!
I'd love to meet the Dalai Lama or just see him speak live for that matter.

James, Im not sure how much he will speak. The info isn't that clear. I have some small doubt that this is some small part of a larger speaking tour, in which his cause might just come out on top. The tickets don't come cheap.. Im not saying at all he is making a profit, just that its san francisco, the people would pay anything to see him.

I cant wait for sunday!!!

Say "Hello Dalai!" I'm sure he's never heard that one before.

He's coming to my town, Calgary, September 30 to October 2.

Various activities will occur in conjunction with his visit, including lectures, addresses, even a concert in his honour (with kd lang and guests).

Ticket package info, for any who might be interested:

Try to swing that deal where at the moment of your death you achieve total conciousness (wish I could spell that). Do I win for getting the reference?

The important question to ask is:

Red-backed or blue-backed bikes?

Im sure many of you thought of the caddyshack thing. that's a great one, Pep. I hadnt thought of that.

What color do you think landmark? They are quite specific as to what we can bring in to the breakfast, so I'm not sure if they would let in a deck. It might be made by the KGB... Maybe I should bring a deck of blanks, to show them it shoots blanks??? Ok, lame joke.

I watched a show on the filming of Caddy Shack and they shot that scene with Chevy Chase and Bill Murry after the rest was filmed when they realized that there were no scenes with the two of them together and they kind of winged the discussion they had.
