Due to the Swine Flu, all public entertainment is canceled today. Texas could be next.

Good Luck!

Last I checked, China is already on top of things along with Spain and Mexico. Schools closed, public gatherings cancelled and a lot of businesses are closed.
This strain of flu virus is very interesting since it doesn't behave like all the other flu strains. Instead of targetings the very young and the very old, it targets people from ages 8 to 45. Even strangers, reports have it that all the victims have been well physically active and very healhty prior to the infections.
Cases are already posted all the way from Hong Kong, Madrid and other cities in Europe and 5 states here in North America.

Can we now consider illegal border jumpers a deadly threat and dispatch of them?

I'm not sure Robert's joking.

I hope he is. But it's sometimes tough to tell on the internet...

I feel sure that many people are ready and willing to turn this swine flu thing into some sort of argument against immigration from Mexico, legal or not.

While we (well, they) are at it, perhaps American tourists visiting Mexican resorts should also be banned from entering back into the country?

For that to happen, it would require some serious acts by the federal government, not to mention starting a LARGE panic

Agreed - what sort of moron stops a country because they have a problem they can't detect? Oh, right.

I hope the few kids who are sick from this in Mexico recover quickly and that those who can and care take this as a good time to get serious about understanding viruses.

Uh Mr. Nanny...what gives you the urge to control what others say and think and how they express themselves? Of all the things that are disasterous and not prone to humorous retort, what makes this story THE one you have posted 800 times about, trying to stifle humor? There are folks that don't care to be regulated at every turn...you know who we are...don't read us...do what Gaddy did and hide under the pillow and block posts...or come around and THINK before your knee jerks and you admonish innocent or even careless comments. Not everybody buys into this PC stuff...instead of us changing...why don't you? That's just as big a stretch ain't it.

800 posts, maybe 3 or 4. I just don't think it is something to joke about.

I could care less if YOU change. I know you think I am an idiot Doug, Im over it. We have had many disagreements in the past, and this one wont be the last. Whatever.

I DON'T think your an idiot!! That's why I challenge you when I think you haven't stopped to think.

What IS something to joke about? Or not joke about? Based on WHAT set of rules? Who's rules? When you try and stifle somewone's input it basically can STOP conversation and exchange of ideas. That is the poison of PC. It STOPS someone who might think differently and can cause people with active imaginations and a different 'take' to become GUN SHY rather than be admonsihed for what they say or think.

You advising people what to say or not say is the issue. It deserves a challenge back at you rather than supressing dialog.

I'm talking URGE and your mention RIGHT. The Right is not arguable...the urge is debatable as to it's origin...

Ok Doug, I over-reacted. Im sorry, I took things to far. Your are right about how much "pc" is invading our culture (no more merry christmas...bah humbug!!!). But I do think that sometimes to much emphasis is put on the "pc" factor. I was not commenting about what I consider to be correct, I was only trying to say (although I now realize I did it in a smarmy way) that I think this is a much bigger issue than people are giving it credit for. I do not wish to stifle anyones ideas, I only wanted to simply say-I think this is not something to joke about, in my opinion. I know how much humor can help in stressful situations, believe me, with what I've been thru recently with my health, I learned a lot about my own sense of humor (however sick and twisted it might be).

They have closed several school in my area (bay area, ca), and the gov have declared a state of emergency. I can olny hope for the best. I hope it is more hype than anything.

-I saw a picture in the paper showing a protesting crowd, with riot police in the background, in Mexico. They were protesting because they have not had running water in over a week. Here is were the human factor comes into to play... If you (anyone) was a riot policeman, and your sister/boyfriend/cousin/ect was in the riot, what would you do? Shoot tear gas at them? during Katrina, many (im not sure of the number) of the N.O police left the city with their families, leaving the city further in trouble. Family or duty? If we had the same situation here as they are having in Mexico, riots, ect. what comes next? (national guard?)

These 'results' you mention, to ME rather than seem ominous of a potential health disaster seem more like an over reaction by Govt. and media. I can think that because of the COUNTLESS over reactions I've seen over the years since I was a kid.

So far look at what is going on...a small amount of people in the USA are MILDLY ill and get over it in a day or so.

It is now reported that there were 7 deaths in Mexico confirmed not 152.(where the health care is very minimal) Meanwhile the Mexico economy is being RAPED...the US Govt is putting in gear another boondoggle of major dollars being spent...(In 1976 42 million people were shot with anti virus for a virus that never showed up! Over a thousand people though were paralized from a faulty virus because it was RUSHED.)

Europe is going through hoops...airlines are in turmoil as are cruise ships and schools and businesses and people's schedules and relationships and military operations and on and on...based on what? 7 deaths in Mexico? SEVEN? Where are the deaths in Asia? France? USA? (besides the kid FROM Mexico who was brought here SICK?) Meanwhile there have been HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of deaths from heart disease...ansd most importantly: Tens of thousands of deaths from regular old every day flu.

The world is on an insanity kick. Sure it COULD be a dangerous strain...but panic set in before it was even determined if was even mildly uncomfortable. So...being old and seeing this happen so many times I tend to FOLLOW THE MONEY. Selling newspapers is one direction to look at. Govt. power trips is another area to look askance at before getting all worked up over what? Nothing so far...NOTHING...except newspaper headlines and inept Govt. over reactions.

There's a very old joke that goes...

An old bull and a young bull are standing on a hill. They are looking down at a herd of Female Cows. The young Bull says "Let's RUN down there and get ONE of 'em!" And the Old Bull say's, "Let's WALK down and get All of 'em".

Sure be concerned I supopose or at least cautious so you don't get sick...but fear? Of what? However, as to the stupidity of those we look to for guidence, be very afraid.
