I just encountered this for the first time this week. Cafe member Jeb Sherrill was flinging these balls all over the place. Totally cool. Any other members into this art? If so how did you get started?

Check out "In motion with Michael Motion" (I know bad spelling I'm LD)
he does a bounce juggling bit in a big triangle, all with a musical rhythm. It was on PBS some time ago, you can get the tape from Dube.

I am not sure exactly what this is? Can one of you two enlighten me? At first I thought, it was contact juggling, but Pokie did not list, the contact juggling site, so now I am confused?

Sir T, I believe the terms are interchangeable but Jeb could address that better. If he doesn't show up here PM him.

If we're talking about Contact Juggling, I was inspired after seeing a video of Michael Moschen. Very cool - for those who don't know, he does the contact juggling bit for David Bowie in Labrynth. Anyway, I eventually read the book Contact Juggling by James Earnest and took it from there. I don't do much in my routines but I like to pass time with it now and then. Most performers use acrylic balls.
There is a handy website http://www.contactjuggling.org Hope this helps ML |

Too bad there isn't some way to consolidate all these contact juggling threads. If you are bored, go watch this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=-85UWGHWaA8

Ahhh youtube. The answer to every inquiry. That was a tight video. I gotta pick up some acrylic balls...they add the mysterious gliding effect that separates this from just juggling.

Also, how do I always respond to threads that are YEARS old?

Hello all!
Here I just want to say how pleased I am to have discover this fantastic art... That's only 3 monthes I began CJ, and I have a very good feeling to it! I allready can isolate a 100 mm acrylic sphere in either hand, both clockwise and counter clockwise... I can roll it both arms and stall at the external and internal elbow points... The butterflies come very well, as the main back/back, palm/palm and variations... I even came with some personal way to handle it, magical way... Now I'm currently working on magic with it, as transform it into jewels... I devised a way to produce it barehand, using a bottomless pouch and misdirection... Then the next step will be multiball manipulations, but I need some extra bucks for it!! (pretty expensive stuff...) Contactjuggling.org is really an amazing place to learn basics, and I found some valuable advices here at the Café too... So I urge all magicians willing to learn something new to try this CJ art, as you don't rely on tricks, but on your own personal abilities(though you can add then a lot of magic into it!)...and much important: there are no limits to your creativity! I think there are people around here who practice CJ, so why not devote a thread about it? Have a nice gliding and smooth day!!! Cheers, |
