Hi,
I'm trying to get my knife-routine down. I have Daryl's knives (red and yellow), but I don't feel comfortable with them at all. When I do the Paddle Move I have the feeling my fingers are falling off, somehow I have the feeling the knives are too big (width) with the blade sticking out too far. I saw Bill Malone has very nice and elegant knives on his "On The Loose" DVDs (Volume 4). Does anyone know which knives he is using? And maybe: Does someone else have the same experience with Daryl's knives as I have? Thank you!

I took a look at a YouTube clip of Bill performing his routine, and while I can't be certain, they look like Mogar knives to me.
The big clue is that Bill's knives have only one bolster. The only CCK with a single bolster other than those made by Joe Mogar that I'm aware of are the "Lewis Ganson" knives. I somehow doubt that Bill is using a set of Ganson knives, as the Ganson knives, which are made in India, are reportedly quite shoddy. |

Hi Neuromancer,
I use Daryl's knives it took me 6 months to really get them down but for me it was worth it, the routine works for my act and when you hand the spectators the knives at the end there is no way they think you could even turn them over with out them seeing!!!!! The Mogar knives are nice a little to small for me. If you find your Daryl knives are not for you please let me know I'll buy them from you. All the best, Royston. |

I love Darryls routine, but those knives are difficult to do the move on. And I agree that Malone is using Mogar knives.

Bill called me a few years ago about making a case to hold his knives which is essentially why we have a knife case (or 2). I can't remember him specifically stating a kind of knife but given that the cases are meant for Mogar knives I'm guessing that must be what he told me he's using.

Thanks for your input guys, I appreciate it.
Royston, thanks for the offer, I'm going to try it a little while longer. If you say it took you half a year ....

I am pretty sure they are mogar knives. Are there any knives out there that don't have the blade sticking out enough so that you can tell it's a knife? I want to invest in a set but I don't feel comfortable using a knife that is clearly a knife.

Tannen's used to carry a set of "knives" designed by Tony Spina that didn't have blades. Actually, they didn't have real blades--they had what appeared to be a blade but, in actuality, the "blade" and the handle were all one solid piece. So, they're not really knives, but they still look like knives so that might not solve your problem.
I don't know if Tannen's still carries them, but you might give 'em a call. |

Hmm, sounds interesting. I might have to consider tracking down a set of those I came up with a routine today actually that is pretty much a color changing knives routine, but with broken popsicle sticks

I had the same experience w/ Daryl's knives. I find them too wide to use comfortably. I also felt they were poorly made. I would also be concerned that if they got wet the colors might run. I have a set to fill out my collection. IMHO a cc knife routine should use knives that look real (or at least plausible). I own a large number of cc knife sets that I keep in display cases. I find that of the knives currently made today Mogar's are the best value. you have unlimited routine possibilities. They are real knives that someone might carry in there pocket. If you need to replace one, you can get it easily. Just my 2.5 ¢
