I'm looking for some of the most impressive cups and balls performances. This includes chop cup and even three shell and pea games.
If you know of any that are very impressive and unusual I'd appreciate it if you could point them out to me. Preferably videos so I can see them in action. I'm looking for this to research something I'm working on. Thanks everyone. Ron Jaxon |

Tommy Wonder, Scotty York, Fred Kaps, Johnny Paul, Shankar Jr., Alex Elmsley, Al Schneider, Larry Jennings, Paul Daniels, Ricky Jay, Ken Brooke, ... also check the video/dvd on cups and balls from http://www.stevensmagic.com and check Michael Ammar's work.
The above should keep you busy for two years. Or you could forget them all and just study Dai Vernon.

My personal favourite............E.G. Brown's routine (using 3 cups and 3 balls).....written up in Abra back in the late 40's..........sheer genius.

2 of my all time favorites (by 2 fine friends), Rannie Raymundo's variation of the Mendoza routine and the oh so original and extra baffling Fun Shop C&B by Kent Gunn!

Though few have seen it, Dean Dill has a fantastic routine with 3 cups and 3 balls. Very clever, with originality and nice plot/premise. As all of Dean's work, it is unique. He almost never does it for magicians, but kills laymen with it.

John Mendoza's original two handlings of the chop cups & balls are worthy of study, too.

Hey Ron,
One of my favorites is the routine by Tim Ellis. I'm sure there are videos of it on you tube somewhere, but his finale with the milkshake is brilliant. Best, Alan |

For chop cup, two of my favorite routines are those by Don Alan and Paul Daniels. I saw both of these routines live, and the taped versions just aren't as good as being there.
Dan Fleshman has the best ending for a C&B routine - eye candy that blows you away! I like the simplicity of a routine that I saw Pat Page perform. The final loads were great, but the rest of the routine was great, too. There was a sense of "balance" in the routine. When you look for these on Youtube, you'll find a few other unexpected gems. |

Gazzo has a nice cups and balls routine. He finishs with multiple oranges and a melon from his hat.

Suzanne does a great routine with a final load that still fools me after seeing her do it at least five times. I understand it was taught to her by Al Schneider.

Al Schneider............now there's a cups and balls master. His DVD is one of my all time favourites. Such a clear and compelling presentation, not just of the mechanics but of the theory behind each important move. He teaches not just the "how" but the "why" too. Very highly recommended!

I just saw routines by Al Schneider and Charlie Frye on Youtube. Both were great!
I wonder what others I can dig up. |

I have to agree with Pete B. I saw Suzanne do her C&B at the last Phoenix Gathering, in 2003 (I think it was), in Baltimore.
It was not only a fooler, it was a C&B routine with some meaning. The "meaning" part was what really stuck with me these past years. A fantastic story that fools you as well. |
