I love the idea for the take a number system both for balloons and for my wife who is a face painter. Any idea where I can buy an inexpensive dispenser system? Most I am finding has a digital reader at stuff and I don't need all that. Just the numbers.

You could get two part tickets, like you use for raffels. and call off the numbers as you go. not the same but an idea.

From my post on BHQ:
This has prices: http://tinyurl.com/dmo7rw This is the one I have: http://www.takeatab.com/products.html Look at use restaurant equipment stores, better yet call first (let your fingers do the walking) I bought mine used for $30 with no bracket, called the company and ordered tickets and a bracket for a $20 total. 10,000 tickets or so. Suggestions - get the 3 digit numbers, it will solve a lot of problems. first time I used it I did not monitor the machine, figure I'll put it away from me .... wrong!! couple of brats pulled 50 tickets out of the machine, screwing up the order of people. I had people that I saw JUST get a ticket tell me they had waited an hour (BULL).

I am ordering that one today. Since my wife and I work together when she is face painting I will hand them a number rather than let them take it themselves. I think that will cut down on some of the problems. I run the line and do some magic to draw the people and my wife paints the faces.

I made up some cards for the last 10 people in line, when they hand it back I make the balloon. I also picked up one of the clocks from the teachers store to let people know when I am closing down.
A friend of mine was telling me that when he and his partner are working together that they will close the line by working from both ends and meeting in the middle. Know matter what way you shut down though,at least for me there always seems to be someone that comes up and wants a balloon, so some times I will make up some balloons for display and give those out at the end...better than nothing. |

Things to think about:
If you're going to go this route, go a bit further and have custom printed tickets. Not only will they get a number they will get your information. Do they get one number per child or one per family? You will get a parent/grandparent holding 5 or more tickets, with no kids around them. (and sometimes the kids are at home) Make it clear that they still have to stick around. If I finish at 2pm you don't get to come come up to me after that, waving your ticket and a crying child. Will they miss their turn and have to get a new number? This idea does have the tendency to make you look like a balloon vending machine instead of an entertainer. I applaud any idea that gets them out of a line. This can be a good tool, but it doesn't work equally well in every situation. Wes Holly |
