The turntable is a nice way to mix up the bags in the table. In the video, I placed a screen in front so that you, the viewer, could not follow the bag I put the nail in. If you want, you could make a larger screen and place it on the table to hide the bags behind. This is what Cyril also does with his version.
I had thought about having the helper stand between me and the table and bring the bags behind their back to mix them. This way you are still facing the audience and your helper can't see the bags being mixed. If you do not wish to turn your back on the audience, you can always stand in front of the table.

It amazes me the amount of spoon feeding some people seem to need.
I suppose that with a release at this price range a buyer might expect to be fed more in terms of presentation. I see this method as more of a utility item than a fully fleshed out presentation. As styles of presentation differ so will the premise of the effect. Honestly how many people perform Wayne Dobson's "SMASH AND STAB" as it is written in the instructions? I know of none. I haven't purchased "The Pain Game", but I'm seriously considering it, I have a few items I would like to sell myself first. I feel presentational motivations for this method are vast and potentially quite powerful and my mind is awash with ideas.

Hi Carlo,
With a routine like this, and the associated cost, it is for the serious performer. There are those who like to have things given on a plate while others like to take raw materials and work in their own style, personality and presentations. This is one for the latter group. Allowing someone else to select the bags gives more scope for a diverse nmber of presentational angles. I've toyed around with one in my head I have never seen anyone else do before. I have never liked the performer making the choices. It coul dwork if they make the first choice and the others are down to the helper but then why not have the helper make all the decisions? Someone may make it work in a different way to me and in a way, I hope they do because then their routine will be theirs and theirs alone. I'm glad that the effect has got you thinking up many ideas. Even if people do not buy certain effects (and I do hope you by this one!) if it can generate creative thought then it has to be a good thing. If you have any questions about it please feel free to PM me. Jon

Hey Jon,
Quick question about the Pain Game. I do a routine that's kind of a cross between Patrick Kuffs and Scott Alexander, but using only 2 bags, and MOST importantly, not revealing the contents until AFTER I have smashed the audience-selected bag. Can I use Pain Game in that same manner? |

Hi Eric,
On the DVD that comes with it, I do a similar routine. I will tell you in all honesty that when I saw it back for the first time, I fooled myself! The way I did it was even better than the standard presentation and maybe those who have seen the DVD will agree? So, yes, you can use The Pain Game in the same manner. If you only want to use two bags then you can.

Although I would love to just buy this, I have been going through my collection and have promised myself not to buy until I thin out a few items.

I just got THE PAIN GAME in my desk this afternoon and it is BRILLIANT!!!...
I love it because this is what I've been searching so long for my routine, it is 1000000% save and YES! the audience can freely choose the bag (that is what I like most). NO switch, NO peek, NO mark.. NO more question just can't wait to play it in my routine next week. trust me, you won't regret it.. worth the price Best regards Voodoo

Is there anything that will eventually wear out with this item? Not fishing for methods, just curious if this is an item that will endure for years to come.
Thanks! |

There is nothing that can wear out or will need replacing... except the bags as Greg said. The wooden blocks each come sealed in a thin plastic bag from the factory. I suggest you put them back in after each use or get small poly bags to keep the dry and away from the elements. A few people suggested using an apple or soft fruit to impale on the bag at the end to show the nail was not flimsy. While this looks good dramatically, I wouldn't recommend it as the juice will cause the nail to rust and the wood to stain.

Excuse me if this contains a number of 'UK Only' references. I just went to my local Tesco superstore and found that they have started selling 'Pic n Mix' sweets. They us the classic 'Candy King' bags I used at The Session. I thought that only Woolworths used them. Does anyone know if other Tesco superstores are selling sweets like this?
I liked the idea of using Pic 'n' Mix bags for something where you... Mix 'n' Pic! The bags do not have the words "Pic 'n' Mix" on them as that was a term used by Woolworth (I believe) but is now commonly used elsewhere. The do have 'Candy King' written on them. I am sure the Candy King bags are produced elsewhere as well.

It is from an aesthetic point of view and would also introduce an unwanted problem...
I suppose if the thought of impaling your hand is bad, impaling it with a rusty nail is worse!

I am very interested in this routine but would very much like another review from a first hand non related party before throwing my money down. Anyone??

Hi Rotten,
There have been a few reviews on here and elsewhere on the Internet. If it is only one more review that is needed so you can make up your mind I hope it comes quickly! If you have any questions or queries I will be happy to answer them without the usual 'spin' put on things by creators. I'm away from tomorrow with unknown web access so apologies if I don't reply straight away. Jon

I own The Pain Game, and am in the process of working out my routine for it. I'll be sure to post a review, once I have some 'real world' experience with it. But, as an owner of "Shattered," (the other no-risk dangerous monte) I will say "so far, so good!"
