So, according to algebreic rules: If Mario can roof a house in 9 hrs, and Al can do it in 8, then since x/9+x/8=1, then they should be able to do it together in 4 4/17 hours.
Except we all know that isn't true. If Al and Mario do the job together, they will spend most of their work time talking about girls and the job will take 72 hours. Therefore, the rules are bogus.

I forget who said it (Twain?) but this reminds me of the farmer's equation: "I hire one boy, I get one boy. I hire two boys I get a boy and a half. I hire three boys, I get no boys at all."
