Hi
Im looking for a PA system that has either a wireless LAV or Headset and can accomodate at least 400 people, I have seen the bhappie and florida magic systems and I would like something that is a bit bigger than those. I am easy on price but my "wishlist" is; Wireless Lav or Headset Mic Power at least 400 people Reliable as well I have read older topics, but nothing I have seen has been what I would like Chris |

Accommodate 400 people where? Indoors? Outdoors? In a gym? How big is the area you're trying to fill?
Headset mic will save you money and work really well. Start off by getting a high quality wireless microphone (unless you can use a handheld on a stand). Then you're 80% there. If the venue has a PA, you just bring your wireless. You'll be surprised how often that works out. Now decide what kind of PA to get. For my money, I'd get a Carvin StageMate and extra speaker. That combo will take you from a kids birthday party (just bring 1 speaker) up to a nice sized outdoor show (bring both speakers and speaker stands). (I'd prefer something smaller for a kids bday, such as the roland street cube). And you'll have your wireless that you can take everywhere and use for everything. Good bang for the buck there.

Frank and I see eye to eye on this...I love my Carvin Stagemate with the extra speaker. I've got the extra battery for longer life when no ac is available. He turned me on to the Roland Street Cube, and its the perfect solution for smaller shows.
If the show is bigger than the Stagemate can handle, an audio set-up is typically made available. But I always bring the Stagemate, just in case.. KEn |

I'm no expert on that. I have a Sennheiser and love it. I opted for the camcorder model so I can run it all of AA batteries. Dan does not recommend that as much becuase it's not true diversity. Hopefully Dan will chime in. He's usually creeping around

I never recommend any brand of wireless other than Shure or Sennheiser, and never any model plower than Shure PGX, or Sennehsier Evolution.

Mine is the Evolution ew 112-p :
http://www.pro-sound.com/p/SSENEW112PG2.html My headset is the Sennheiser ME-3: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ME3/ As I stated before, the wireless is not necessarily on Dan's recommended list but I absolutely love it.

You can also try an Anchor all-in-one system. That's what we use at the camp for some of the outdoor things we do. When Michael Ammar and Hannah did their lecture outside, they used the smaller Explorer. There are 2 sizes we have up at Sorcerers, the Liberty and the Explorer. If you are serious about pursuing this, contact me whenever you can, and I'll give you the run down on them. They are wireless, and have an internal battery for outdoors. You can add speakers (daisy chain them together) for more sound whenever needed. The major plus is, that it is all powered by the built in battery. The only drawback is the mic will only work for that system, since the receiver is built it. That's why (as per Dan..."Hi Dan!") I have a Shure mic for house systems (or my own larger, powered system). I think whichever way you decide to go, you want to have the freedom and versatility to perform anywhere they ask. Indoors, outdoors, large and small crowds. Good luck, and feel free to contact me anytime. Cheers, Mike |

Hi everyone, I took your advice Frank, along with some wisdom from Dan and bought a mic + receiver
They are the Shure PGX1, PGX4, and a headset mic, it was a really good deal http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?View......48455221 Does anyone know a good case to transport this in that is cheaper than the $150.00 one on the shure website Im planning on getting the peavey esscort as I saw one in action a few days ago and love how compact it is Thanks for all the tips guys Chris |

How about a camera case. They are padded, etc. Just go shopping and you'll find what you're looking for.
Perhaps a laptop case as well?

I have a question for you guys that own the Carvin. I ordered the Stagemate and am awaiting delivery, and am going to order the sennheiser ew112 with a lavalier mic. I like the idea of having battery power, but since the wireless mic requires a plug-in, doesn't that render the battery useless, or is there some way to plug the receiver for the wireless into the unit. Thanks -

As Mike mentioned above, the Anchor is fantastic. I use the Explorer Pro with the built-in wireless mic system, and use the Countryman as my earset.

I did that very thing for my Sennheiser and even put the instructions in PDF format. If you want the instructions, just PM me your email address and I'll get it out to you. All you need is a simple AA battery holder, a length of wire and the correct adapter plug for your receiver. The battery pack uses 8 AA batteries. I don't know much about electronics but I found it really easy to make. Michael |

That was supposed to say, "Unless you want find a way to wire an input from the..." I left out "to wire" from the original post and I can't edit it now.

Got the PDF from Michael - it is straightforward and basic enough that almost anyone should be able to put it together in a couple of hours. Thanks so much for sharing -
