I perform walk around and table work in a duo with a fellow magi. We have a great time coming up with ways of turning classic effects into duo pieces.
Anyone else have any ideas on turning classic effects into duo routines? Sponge balls travelling from hand to hand? Triumph where we each have half the deck the wrong way around? |

A couple that quickly came to mind:
Chinese sticks. Topsy-Turvy bottles. Disappearing hank (out of your hand into his and back again) |

Nice.
I like the chinese sticks idea. A lot of comic potential there. |

If it's a very fun restaurant like a TGIFridays where there is a lot of hoopin and hollarin going on anyways you could do a 2 person mental routine as you work separate tables across the room from one another.

How about one of you being the master magician, the other an apprentice. The apprentice follows the master around, and tries to imitate the master, silently attempting to do the same effect as the master, but always to comedic effect. For example, the master may perform a gypsy thread effect with dental floss, showing all small pieces restored into a long unbroken length, while the apprentice seems to do the same thing, but the result is a large number of small pieces of floss tied together. Or the master does a card to impossible location effect and the apprentice attempts to do so but instead finds his right sock in the location. Apprentice takes off his shoe and displays a card inside -- the one chosen by the spec. Or the master does a card to pocket and apprentice does 51 cards to pocket.
You might also do a single trick with the master using his left hand and the apprentice using his right -- part of apprentice's training. Shuffling could be pretty impressive. 0pus |

Here something I read awhile back.
the two of you agree on a card for the evening...oh I don't know let's say the Seven of Diamonds... anytime you want force the card on a spectator - pretend to goof up or act like you're having a hard time finding it. then give a little yell for help to your partner...like... "Nick what was the card?" and he yells back without thinking...Seven of Diamonds!! this can be done lots of different ways. |

Nice! (except Pablo is a mime!)
Our favourite effect is the opening effect from Roadkillers. The first trick we ever did and still the best! We also do a multiple selection routine where we are competing for a trophy to see who can find the most cards. Neither of us can find the last card to break the tie so we give the trophy to a spectator and (of course) their signed card is in the base of the trophy. |

OK Pablo the Mime could produce a jumbo
Seven of Diamonds or a large card silk. Depending where and how he produces it you could have alot of fun |

I have worked a few shows with other magicians and we use the invisible deck routine without the deck. One of us will let spectator pick a card and not be able to find it. Then we will try and name it. Then I turn to the other magician and tell them that I am have trouble with the card and tell him that it is not a certain card and the the other magician knows right away and say the name without any hesitation. I hope I explained this well enough for you to understand.

The "RoadKillers" routine looks great and I can see why you two are incorporating it into your walkaround.
Also, I think working with a partner would give you alot more options and room for comdey in your initial intro at the tables. |
