Hey, I just learned this trick and it's great. I was just wondering for those who actually perform it, do you find any particular patter or mood makes this trick more amazing? I'm trying to put together a presentation for it but I just wanted some ideas to make it better. Thanks

Undoubtedly one of Simon Aronson's most ingenious creations (of many). However, if you really want to take this principle to the next level with a mind-blowing routine, I urge you to check out Aldo Colombini's "Pre-Deck-Ability" routine. It's very inexpensive and a show-stopper.

I definitely will, from what I've seen of Aldos, it must be good.

Bill Goldman's 'Little Bunny's Card Trick' is a very good variation of the Shuffle Board concept. It might not suit your performing style but it is a serious baffler.
Also, he uses another handling by Simon Aronson which puts the deck in the hands as opposed to the riffle shuffles on the table. Love it! Ed |

As far as I could trace, Bob Hummer's "Face Up Prediction" in his "Half A Dozen Hummers" is the routine of Simon Aronson's "Shuffle Bored". I will list the related tricks in chronogical order.
Face Up Prediction, Bob Hummer, Half A Dozen Hummer, 1940 Reversification, Charles Hudson, Linking Ring, 1974.1 But What About My Number, Ed Marlo, Linking Ring, 1974.7 Shuffle Bored, Simon Aronson, Shuffle Bored, 1980 The Equalizer, Harry Lorayne, The Trendsetters, 1990 Pre Deck Ability, Aldo Colombini, Pre Deck Ability, 1996 Title Unknown, Ali Bongo, Lecture Video, ? From Mr. Oschmann's explanation, I guess William Goldman's version is similar to Ali Bongo's version. Although Mr. Colombini complained that Mr. Bongo did not give any credit to Mr. Colombini's idea of using Multi-Prediction, I think Mr. Bongo's version has its advantage. Seeing above list of the process of development of a trick, I feel magic is developing step by step and certainly in time. Hideo Kato P.S. If you know other related tricks with "Shuffle Bored", I'd appreciate it if you would let us know. Thanks |

A nice version by John Bannon can be found in his "Cardzilla is Coming" notes. I believe it's called "Wait Until Dark".

For those of you intrigued by Simon's Shufflebored Effect, you must check out this month's issue of MAGIC Magazine with Simon on the cover. In the issue he tips a full explanation on this effect with the new improvement inspired by Bob Sheets. It now gives a logical reason, patter and presentation to the effect that now makes it "a realistic effect" to introduce into your act.
The necessary gimmick is included with the issue. This goes into my act immediately. Michael |

You can add Paul Green's Jeopardy. For a mental effect, one couldend up reciting all of the face-up cards. I use the concept in conjunction with a memorized deck.

Harry Lorayne has an excellent effect in Trendsetters which using that same principle. It's called "The Equalizer". I think however Aldo's PreDeckAbility is the best of this gendre of effects.

"Although Mr. Colombini complained that Mr. Bongo did not give any credit to Mr. Colombini's idea of using Multi-Prediction, I think Mr. Bongo's version has its advantage." I think the reason may be that Ali Bongo came up with it first! Aronson credits Ali with being the first to come up with the multi phase prediction which made the effect very commercial, his comments on that are in "Try The Impossible" p.278. I saw Ali do it in a lecture well over 10 years ago, and have used it on and off since then. Paul. |

I made a post a couple of years ago that had youtube links to this performance along with Jeopardy (Paul Green), Pre-Deck-Ability (Colombini) and Rain Man (Lennart Green) but some of them are no longer available. It's unfortunate because they were great performances. Anyways, we can add Rain Man by Lennart Green to the list. To the OP, if you want to find more info, these tricks are discussed in depth in the "Shuffled not Stirred" forum. |

Lennart's 'Rain Man' is my favorite approach to Simon's beautiful effect. Woody Aragon also has a very nice take on this. I actually perform Lennart's and throw in Woody's 'Wiper Move' for good measure.
It's all in the reflexes.

It is, in my opinion, one of the best presentations of the Shufflebored genre because it doesn't involve predictions. Paul Green's Jeopardy!, for example, while unquestionably a strong effect, leaves a thinking audience realizing that he knew the outcome beforehand. They may not know how he could know, but they know that he did know; i.e., the outcome that they saw was the only possible outcome. Bannon's, on the other hand, involves real-time divination of the state of the cards (but with a prediction kicker that really throws them); a thinking audience will believe that any possible outcome could have occurred. For this reason, I believe that John's presentation is stronger than Paul's. I know that when I've done my version of John's presentation, every audience has been stunned. |

Great thread this, although very old. Any other variations on this incredible effect by Mr Aronson?im enjoying Mr Aragons version but bit more of a set up than Jepordy, on the plus side you get an extra shuffle with Woodys. Confused . G

Glad I could help. It was Aronson's Shuffle-bored, and later Green's Rain Man, that caused me to check out the "Shuffled Not Stirred" forum more and eventually learn a memorized deck. After learning a memorized deck and seeing the miracles you can perform...I quote Dani DaOriz: "WOWWWW!"
