Hey Jeff! Soon I'll be starting a job in hospital where I will be able to interact a lot with patients. I am looking for some magic tricks that I can do that are very visual, easy to understand, and don't involve a lot of hand touching a.k.a > pick a card tricks, sponge balls, etc. I was wondering what you might recommend? I think I will use The Bead and String Mystery from your magic on the edge dvd. Any other suggestions?

Hi, willbill... not to pre-empt anything Jeff would say, but you might be interested in this thread:

Jeff's Wishing Rainbow to mini-rose routine is a wonderful thing to brighten someone's day... I use it all the time, especially for all the friends of the kids in my cub scout den... now, every time I see any of them they all want me to do "the little rose trick"...
maybe Jeff can tell us about it Smile

Greetings all...

The area of medical magic has fascinated me for many years. Each year, we host an event called Magic and Medicine at our Las Vegas School. Here is the link:
http://www.magicalwisdom.com/events/view/398

Over the years, we have met with many professionals in the healing arts. One thing I have learned from them is that there are rules and regulations surrounding the types of interactions you can have in a hospital. Some institutions have very strict rules about the type of materials that are allowed into hospital rooms. Please check with your local institution to see if there are any restrictions on materials such as latex, sponge, even the sharp little wire that comes out of the gift rose might be in question.

Here are some resources for you to look into:
Scott Tokar's book Side F/X
Bringing Magic to Life by Jay Ungar
Applied Magic by Michael Kett

These books cover magic to teach bedridden people, as well as routines to perform for patients.

The simple fact is this. When we perform magic, we make people's pain, fear and suffering disappear, even if only for a moment.

Yours in the healing art of magic,

Jeff
