I just wanted to let the magic community know that I am a complete idiot.
I spent my folding coin.
Shame on me.

I always carry my coins in a purse so I don't spend them. the people at the bank will have a hard time running the folding coin thru the coin counting machine. (LOL)

Do those coins work if you put it in a soda machine, video game, pay phone or anything like that?

Yes, far too often they do. Most of us have been down that road at one time or another.

I wonder how the person who received your coin felt when he finds out that he has been conned with a broken coin that only use a rubber band to hold it together. LOL!

I wonder if whoever finds it realizes that it's a magic trick.....or thinks it's something different.....

It's never happened to me...I carry my gaffed coins in coin wallets and put them back when finished...

Cardamagically,

Yes, I should be more careful. I usually keep them in a special bag too. But I needed to ditch it somewhere during a trick. And I forgot about it afterward.

At least, it looks like I am not alone.
And I am sure there is either a puzzled layman or a happy magician somewhere.

A great many years ago when Jimmy Ravel was in charge of the now, sadly, gone Magic Shop in the Knott's Berry Farm someone lifted (stole) a whole batch of Johnson Products trick coins. Like thousands and thousands of dollars worth.

Not having an appreciation of what they actually had, probably kids, they spent the darn things at face value all over the park!!!!

Jim and the other magicians on staff spent hours going through the change in the accounting office at the end of the day looking for the stolen coins and actually found a great many of them! Imagine .... this was the day when the halves, dollar, and quarters were actually still.....90% Silver!

All best,
Brad Burt

There are 2 kinds of magicians. The ones that have spent a gaffed coin and the ones that are going to spend a gaffed coin.Smile

I would like to add 3 more to what jjduck started ... just to add humor to this thread

1) The ones that have spent a gaffed coin
2) The ones that are going to spend a gaff coin
3) The ones that will never spend their gaff coins
4) The ones that do not believe in buying gaff coins
5) The ones that do not know what a gaff coin is

Try having your significant other use your just purchased center tear newspapers to start the fire...
Also known, when doing rope magic, as "Cordini"
