Jeff,

We are being told online learning is growing at a rate of 30% annually. Should students be seeking higher magical education online? What does the future hold for connecting magic to modern less traditional resources for learning?

Greetings Street, and all...

Excellent question, and one our faculty here at the Magic & Mystery School have been exploring.

We've decided to start teaching magic via the internet, not as an end, but as a means to solidify relationships with serious new students of the art, and to guide them towards what we feel are some of the best resources for learning magic.

The internet is an amazing tool for opening up people's minds to limitless possibilities. That is real magic.

For us, the future holds the creation of more short teaching videos that we can share with students to get the word out on what is happening at our magic events. We also are interested in creating online portals where students can get small group and one on one training from the comfort of their own homes.

I work with students via YouTube private clips, which are sent to me with obscure titles so one can find the key words to open them.

I also have been working with students one on one via Skype.

I have also been involved in cam chat rooms, where a small group of dedicated magicians will gather to share their secrets in cyber-space. If you want more information on what the future holds for magic and the internet interfaces we are creating for learning magic, we will send you our Muse-Letter to let you know about all the upcoming cyber-sessions:

I think taped versions of the Master Classes available for download or on DVD would be great (to be able to purchase). I know it's not quite the same experience as being there, but I think it's a good option for those of us who live on the other side of the country and have dial-up, thereby making access to both of the current versions (live and online) difficult.

Having done the short master class at twist and shout, I would find it quite the chalange to put this on tape ( ok dvd) as we did what, 4 hrs and it flashed by.
mabby vidio class notes for students, but out of context it could only be another vidio.
but then agen....hmmm.

Hi Witchy and Pokie Poke,

I agree.... It would be impossible to put a dvd of the class online. It would lead to youtube and piracy as well.

For now we are working in the areas we know we can make a big difference.

Serious students make the journey to Vegas and enroll in the school. For others we help by writing books, magazine articles, DVD's, and even help online with the old school personal phone consultations, and now the new cyber- sessions on SKYPE.

Eugene and I also do full day workshops when we travel. This is the type of event Pokie is talking about that he attended. We call them Magic and Mystery School Secret Sessions". These sessions are a sample of our Master Classes. I hope you can attend one Witchy!

Yours in better magical education,

JEff

I meant more DVDs like the ones you already have for sale in YouRMagic catalog...but I see what you mean about possible piracy.

P.S.: We've met...I'm fire family in disguise. Smile

Regarding putting Master Class videos online, I think we should reassure our students it's not something we're considering.

One of the great benefits of attending a class is that we work hard to make you feel safe there. Safe to try new things, safe to fall on your face if that should happen as you stretch your own capabilities. Although you're working in front of 10-12 other students, only the student working on each piece gets to keep the video of that working - it's theirs, not ours. If they were extraodinarily brave and willing to go over the top trying something new that might make them look silly - they are entitled to keep the results of what that looked like to themselves.

I think this sense of safety, guarded by confidentiality, is one of the great strengths of what Jeff & Eugene's teaching offers - the Master Class experience they offer is truly unique, and not reproduceable on video. You just need to come to Las Vegas and experience it.

On the other hand...there's much that we can, have, and will continue to offer as online and on-DVD learning.
