Hello,
I saw on magic warehouse Bazar de magia's dove harness. They are very cheap (7.5 $) Are they reliable ? Have someone tried them ? Thanks for your answers Bruno |

I bought the newspaper one from Bazar de magica and in all honesty it sucks. The release is reliable but the material it's made of is very poor for dove magic. It isn't slick for steals and it actually ruffles up the birds feathers around the shoulders. If you want to put a sock in it and practice steals with it go for it otherwise stay away.

If you prefer wire loops and adjustable velcro fasteners, then this company has a variety of colors and even though they don't advertise it, they also make a newspaper harness. http://www.chameleonfabrications.com/

I've bought 4 Bazar de magia bags... 2 were made of cotton... Sucked... the other 2, were made of a nylon material... they were good and much thinner than the usual satin ones. So its a matter of luck. Then again... they're not the best around

Those bazar holders are good for learning if your broke, but I wouldn't actually use them in a real show.
Try andy amyx holders from most dealers, like themagicwarehouse.com or Thomas Clarks (www.magicsax.com) |

Why would you ever buy and practice with a prop that you would not use in a real show?

I think he meant a dove holder made by Chameleon Fabrications.

Thanks for the laugh DynaMike! I needed that one! LOL
Hey Bob, don't you make newspaper Dove harnesses? Finding the material that works is difficult anymore for that pattern. I live new MaryJo's (largest fabric supplier in the US), and they don't even carry the stuff anymore. They do,however, carry a cartoon print, but there again, its licensed for purchasing only, not reselling. I've never had any experience with the Bazar ones. I see photos, and they look mass produced which could mean lots of flaws if they aren't personally inspected. And they look a little too small for normal doves too, but that is only observation, so I could, and probably am, totally wrong - I'll raise my hand with DynaMike! -Alpha |

Alpha,
I have very few Newspaper Harnesses left. They are made of nylon tricot and stretch and slide well. They are also still used in my act at times. When these are gone we will not be able to replace them. If you catch me at a lecture, sometimes I have a few. However, we don't even list them anymore on our dealer price list. In an interview (Magic Magazine I guess), Lance Burton and Channing Pollock both say that they made their harnesses themselves... I did too !

I use the Chameleon Fabrications' newspaper dove harness a lot. In our adult shows, I will always do a Slydini Torn and Restored Newspaper and produce a dove following the restoration.
Chameleon Fabrications, for clarity sake, is my wife's company. Each harness is made individually by her. The design of the harnesses include an enclosed head or the open head (of the dove). They use adjustable velcro fasteners and wire loops. Also for clarity's sake, she does not sell a lot of dove harnesses. Most dove workers prefer to make their own to suit their own needs. As well, for those who choose to buy them, there are a large number of sellers and manufacturers to choose from. Far more popular in sales at Chameleon Fabrications are the Silk Fountain to Dove and her quick change gimmicks. Again, many performers prefer to make their own silk fountains. Pat's Silk Fountain to Dove is a one piece gimmick that allows you to put the dove in it after the fountain has been folded. The dove is perfectly safe in it and will come out from the centre of the fountain. You can, of course, also load it with a large silk streamer. Sales of her quick change gimmicks are her most popular product and reach every continent in the world outside of Antarctica. If interested in any of her products, she also frequently puts her items at below advertised costs on Ebay. |

Thanks for your help.I think I will buy dove holders from G. Grant and from magicsax, I've seen excellent reviews for both.
I only have a harness from Bruno Ray (I think it's only available from Belgium and France)but I was not happy with it. It's and hook and eye system but the harness can open too easily especially when it's in my sleeve. |

If you are going to do a dove from newspaper just use a black holder/bag.

I agree with Andy. I have been doing Dove from Newspaper a couple years now. The bag is always behind/inside the newspaper. Any color holder/bag will work because it can always be hidden. The coloring will also help you locate the holder/bag easier from getting it mixed up with paper.
