I'm thinking of putting together a show where the volunteers take a trip to another planet. Nothing new, I know, but I'm looking for some fun routines that I can incorporate along with Martian language, weightlessness, etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I do a continuous routine where they begin by strapping themselves in. Then the recorded countdown begins. The G-forces thrown them back, then they are weightless, and floating. They try to eat their dinner, but the peas begin to float away. Finally they land, and take part in a low-weight disco dance competition. Near the end we manage to turn on the artificial gravity, but we put it on too strong, and they are dragged to the ground. Finally we turn off the gravity and they need to go out into the audience and ask for directions to the toilet - while speaking in martian.
Occasionally while weightless in the space capsule I add a bit about them taking the pills to put them into suspended animation - but they take the laughing pills by mistake. Its not a routine I do regularly, but it gets a good reaction when I do remember to include it.

I normally find that if I smile when I'm reading something it'll be good. I've now got a huge grin on my face reading this one. Apart from simply being funny I like the creativity involved in its linkage. By that I mean a good magician can do tricks but a pro will take several tricks together and weave them ALL into one big story, of laughter (if he's comedic) and awe (if he also has the skills).
That's what makes it an actual show. Although it's all good I personally love quick and funny twists like the pills being the wrong ones and asking for the toilets...(pause) but in martian (Should I have used a capital in martian?).

Divide it into three sections
1) Pre-flight - maybe tests to make sure they are prepared to go... Hot and Cold to test their tolerances, etc. 2) Flight - Lift off (simulated), weightlessness, looking out the window, steering ship through astroid field, etc. 3) Landing on planet - low gravity moving around, talking with aliens, etc. It's a good premise... tons of stuff you can do and adapt. |
