How many private poker games do you actually know were played in your city last night?

I'm wondering if we can tell how many private games there will be in a city by the number of casino's and number of people in that city. Why would players go to play in a private game when they can go to a casino and play? Well they do not it seems to me they go to the casino. Most of my games start when the casino's close which is about 6 in the morning. There was at last count 144 casno's in England, which is not big a place. I mean we don't have many cities and the casino's are in the cities or close to them.
I wonder if there are any private games at all in Las Vegas?

The best arguement for a private game is that there is no house rake

The question is whether you can get a home game with a enough players to play for as long as you want to. For some people, it may be the case that they'll settle for a home game if there's no local casino, but for many others, they'll settle for a casino if there's no home game.

Maybe but you will not find any of them in England, unless its some sort of low stakes momma and poppa game. Well you might but I can’t find one. Its not a % rake here but a time fee. Some times we have a poker comp with no rake and a cash game kicks off from that.
It seems from looking at this, that some places in the USA have very few casino's, just one in the whole of Texas! Must be plenty of private games there. Number of casino's in the USA states http://www.ogpaper.com/casinos/UnitedStates.html

Whether it's a rake on a percentage basis or a time fee (generally it's a rake in smaller games, and a time fee in bigger games here), it's still money coming off the table...that's not good for anyone.

Maybe you would like to run a game for nothing but not me. You must be kidding or have tried running a game.

Maybe if Amtrak comes back their will be card games on trains (like in the movie "The Sting"). Golf clubs are also good...if you have $100 grand to spend for membership Maybe I'll just stick to "strip poker", it's more fun

I know here in Vancouver, I can play a house game almost every night of the week- and have.
The benefit of the home game over the casino is definitely the social aspect, but also the fact that almost all the home games I find are run as Sit'N'Go's or tournament style. You can walk in with X amount of dollars and get the same amount of chips as everyone else. Often ring games break out amonst those that have gone out early but I find Tournament style the more popular option. My 2 cents, ~jdg

I remember Big Bill, Cliff and the Ice-cream Kid, The Vancouver Hoovers as we called them back in the 70s since they came here and cleaned up. Cool guys though and we did win some dough back from the bookies by backing them.

Even in home games where the host takes something...unless you have the most altruistic casinos ever, there's no comparison.

I would estimate that in the Grand Rapids, MI area there are 90-100 private or home games. Most of them them do not take a rake as they think that makes their game legal. which it does not.

I can find a home game pretty much any night of the week
be it higher stakes of 200 buy in or low stakes of 50. 1000 dollar buy ins are a bit more rarer but still can get in them.. though I don't have a roll or the balls to play it |
