Greetings:
We have some wonderful news that we wanted to share. For 40 years we have been friends of Abe and Cece Silverbush, having first met when we were neighbors on Wescott St. in Syracuse. Even though we moved South more than 25 years ago, we see them every summer on our trip "home." We have a favorite restaurant that we go to and catch up on all the news. Well, next visit, we will really have something to talk about, as Abe and Cece have just won the NYS lottery for $35 million. It could not have happened to nicer, more decent people. Abe is a Holocaust survivor and came to America from Poland when he was a teenager. He actually taught himself to speak English by reading comic books. He became an apprentice, worked hard, and has truly lived the American dream. After their six kids got on their own, Cece went back to college--in her 50's--and became a teacher. All of their kids have been successful in school--and in life--and offer testimony to the wonderful example set by their parents. I only wish all of those who read about their good fortune with the lottery could really know this amazing family. Those of us who do realize that Abe and Cece were big winners long before they hit the lottery. Best wishes. Ed and Jean Hutchison http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2......ers.html |

Funny, but I don't ask how much they won, but how much did they get to keep after the gov'ts of NY and Uncle Sam get done with them?

My advice....go on vacation and then don't come back or leave a forwarding address. Maybe give Poland another shot, they could be a duke and dutchess.
I knew of two people who won the lottery, one far less but still a few million and the other a lot. The first guy got sued by everyone he ever accidentally bumped into in his life. The clincher was some guy who said he had his foot stepped on in the second grade and had been in pain since then, over fifty years. People suck. The other guys only problem was the wife who left him decades before who he never divorced (note, if the spouse leaves, divorce her or him) and guess who showed up looking for her half? I'd love to win a lottery (my state doesn't have one, I'd move to Poland with Cece and Abe). |

Congrats to Abe and Cece. Hope they are the sort who can handle this sort of thing.

Basically means them and their chldren could earn about 40 000 dollars a year in a low risk investment and that should be more than enough to retire on and have some nice holidays when necesary Santa, if I ever win the lotto, I'll PM you and we go to Poland together. After that we make a pit stop in Thailand and then go visit MR stoneunhinged in Germany. I know Poland is closer to Germany than Thailand but if I have 15 million I am flying the best class the airline can offer and then I want to be on the plane for longer. |

If I had won it I would have given them $1m so I think its only fair that they should send me something.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

For me it would be a start. I'll build some of the meanest illusions and spend my entire day practicing purely because I wouldn't need to work.

I love stories like this!
There was another big win not long ago for a very poor hard working ranch family in So Dakota or Nebraska (some place like that)! They had just had their mobile home repo'd for back taxes and times were tough! Friends and neighbors said that nobody was more deserving! They say that no matter how bad things were for them, they'd give you the shirt off their back! I think I read he bought 1 ticket and felt guilty for spending the dollar! |
