Just saw it and it was put in a very dim and dangerous view. It was played in a comical light but with lots of dirty humor that got some laughs when it hit the sideshow (you might have seen a few familiar faces). I just wish they had actually mentioned the location they were at, might have stirred up interest in ol' Coney Island.

It wasn't the brightest thing I've ever done in my life. Sadly though, it was far from the dumbest.

You can do such interesting things, according to how you edit tape. In this case, I don't think they had to do much.
It was great!

Every time I watched Colbert's Daily Show interviews I wondered what was edited and what wasn't.

It was Edited..to get the spin They wanted...and they succeeded Masterfully. On a traveling Carnival those Guys would have Never got their 15 seconds of Fame...Coney is a disgrace to the Carnival Industry...I visited Coney in '05 and its a Dump..Very little professinalism....99% of all large traveling Carnivals today put Coney to Shame...I don't find it Funny...But Sad, That a Historic Place like Coney has deteriorated to a point of virtually No return...

That is what I really think...If, your talking to me...Might I add, any Publicity is good publicity...However, The Carnival or Rather Outdoor Traveling Amusement Business has made Great strides in Rider saftety, Guest services and image..And in a Time when Coney is sorta like the ole "Big Boy" ads..."Should He stay..or Should He Go"...I would think they would of had a "Rep" to not let "Old Carnival" perceptions go unchecked...Also, Coney IS NOT a Carnival in the common perception..It is more Park like...and that Report...in my opinion, presents a strong argument to just let it(Coney) go...Perhaps, Feld Entertainment will Help, as I am sure RBBB would never allow a piece like that...to be filmed...Comedy or not...

That was filmed at least 2 seasons ago. It's not current. First off, the Zipper has been gone for 2 seasons, and if you noticed the Astroland rocket was still up. That was taken down this past winter.
Roc Rockit is no longer part of the cast of the sideshow. He was there 2 seasons ago. (The bald guy with the huge ear peircings) Interesting how they had all that footage in the can for a few years and just now opted to produce something out of it. |

Addy, interesting, However, it does not matter when they filmed it...to show it now has the same effect...I saw Coney in 'o5...and I would go out on a limb (not much of a limb tho)...and bet that it has deteriorated even more since 2 seasons ago....

I remain optimistic about Coney Island...during the last 30 years or so of living in Manhattan...I have witnessed the slow transformation of the deteriorated to the desired many times.
Fingers crossed. In the city we have heaps of TV commercials for Boom A Ring...by the by. |

Coney has always been a witch's brew of rotten politics, bad choices, and bad surroundings. But there are plenty of people who are working non stop, both in the public eye and behind the scenes to try and reclaim the glory days of 'The World's Playground'.
Sure things have gone down hill in the last 2 seasons. More so over the last 4 years. We all know the drama with the real estate developers buying mass amounts of land. But with hope things will turn for the better. I agree with Eddie, 10 years ago you couldn't walk down Ave. B in Alphabet City. Burned out buildings, junkies, skells. Now you can't walk down Ave. B because there are too many hipsters standing outside of all the bars, restaurants and nightclubs. A change for the better? Depends on who you ask, I guess... All I know is that the Mermaid Parade is this coming Saturday. Tens of thousands of visitiors are expected, there are festivities all day long, so after all is said and done, Coney is not forgotten. |
