"Run Rabbit Run" is a hilarious effect, but how can it be used in church without creating the wrong mood? I'd like to use it to illustrate the Biblical text I'm preaching on, but I don't want a "sideshow" atmosphere. I'm all for smiles and chuckles in a children's sermon, but I want the religious message of the text to shine through clearly. Do any of you have suggestions for a message with RRR that is both enjoyable but also teaches a religious lesson? Any patter suggestions?
P.S. I usually use texts from the gospels, so those are the ones I'm interested in illustrating. Any help is appreciated! Dean |

That's a good question, I can't think of any. I have a beautifully made "Run Wolf Run" effect that is very similar, would LOVE to see any Gospel applications, maybe something about running away from the Evil One or something like that? We should run away from sin. Not letting the Devil in our "household?" I have no clue...

We (Oz and Wilde) usually recommend that folks think about the message and then figure out how to illustrate it...but admittedly I tend to get an effect I like and say, "How can I use this?" And that is certainly true with Chance Wold products (www.wolfsmagic.com)
Rather than the sharing the gospel with it...I think the message is about keeping focus and bringing other to church. We have too the Run Wolf Run as well...and have been developing a routine for the Oz and Wilde show. (We have on of the first one's made...but have yet to use it in a show) We plan to have the "house" be the church and the chicken coop is the temptations to keep him away from the church. And how we (the audience) need to help keep our friends on track. So if you see him moving away from the church...you need to let me know... Likewise it seems logical to do with the run rabbit run effect...just make little signs and put them on the doors...like "church" and "video arcade" or something for kids...Yes...it becomes mayhem...but that is the effect. Use easy to remove stickers ...like large post its and just use the sticky part. If you adhere it to a piece of paper, you can easily run it through a printer. (print first and then place the post it over the thing printed and run it through again.) Easy and cheap custom props...you've got to love that. And when the effect ends in Run Wolf Run...with the wolf vanishes and it appears somewhere else...we will have it appear in a Bible near by..."Where you will often find Christians...in their Bibles." As I said, the actual script is not done...nor would ours likely be appropriate for others besides a comedy duo team...but the basic message can certainly be adapted. In the fun...you can certainly drive home "serious messages" by saying something like..."You were sure all very eager to tell me that the wolf was not going to church...but what about your friends? Maybe you should invite them sometime." Now in a children's sermon...that you are doing with adults watching...trust me...they will get the message too.

I've used Run Rabbit Run to teach about obedience...the rabbit is a bad bunny who doesn't obey me when I told him to stay put...

It can show all the imaginative ways that people excuse themselves from going to church. Guaranteed to get some guilty laughter as well.

You can set it up as the rabbit is trying to run over to peek at his Christmas presents and ask the kids to let you know when he tries to peek. Then the kids yell and scream everytime he runs over to peek at his presents (this doesn't help with the "mood" part of your question, but I'm thinking of the "lesson" part of the question). Anyway, you could transition from that into talking about the greatest present God ever gave us, His perfect Son...

If you want to see a non-Gospel version of Run Rabbit Run (what the standard trick looks like), it is performed by MagicBob on More Than Magic #3 (at the bottom of the web site) at the 12:30 mark in the show. See it at http://www.ChristianMagician.org

We recently added Run Wolf Run in the Oz & Wilde show (yes after having it for something like three years) and it was done as quick bit in our show just by "Wilde." The wolf was supposed to be staying home and reading his Bible...but he sometimes get distracted and goes to scare the chickens and take their eggs. So the kids need to tell me if he is sneaking out. And the mayhem follows. Finally the Wolf vanishes and he is found inside the pages of my Bible..."In the Word of God." This is between two and minutes of fun with a spiritual drive which is used as an intro of a topic following in the program. No verse is shared during the effect...but the concept of spending time in the Word is.

Great idea Kif! I have that wonderful trick in my magic collection to do someday for Now That's Magic! So it may "appear" there on it someday... who knows... Great built prop, very solid, would last a lifetime if one is careful not to step on it or something drastic like that. I keep it in a harpsicord/small guitar sized musical instrument padded case...

Can the wolf be dressed like a sheep with some white stick on paper. You can talk about the wolf in sheep clothing sneaking in and out of church to bring confusion or something like that.Just thinking out loud.
