Many thanks for your honest reviews guys, this is exactly what I wanted!
By all means if anyone has any fact about any routine of mine that could be credited to a previous creation please let me know so I can add references and credits to the notes. I have pretty much self taught myself over the years and so a few ideas like DBID I can fully understand have been thought of elsewhere, but I can assure you they were independant creations. I perform magic to real people in real situations and these are just some of the routines I have developed. If credit is due anywhere I haven't given it, please let me know so I can correct it. I take criticism only as something that may teach me something. With that said I am thrilled you are all enjoying Repertoire and so far I haven't had one person say they haven't got something positive from it, which to me is the reason I put it out, to share and inspire (if I could!!) Many thanks, Ben |

Review: REPERTOIRE VOLUME 1 by Ben Williams
Repertoire Volume 1 is a fantastic PDF manuscript by Ben Williams. I had the pleasure of receiving mine free, but I would have gladly paid the generous price of $20. Ben provides a variety of unique, creative concepts that are easily applicable to any routine. Every effect is clean, simple, and hard-hitting. The PDF is 33 pages long and contains color photographs to go along with the written explanations. Everything is easy to understand and to-the-point. The trick descriptions are available at the beginning of this topic, but you can also find them at Ben’s website: http://www.magicfromtheunderground.com Heartless: 10/10 This is a wonderful little effect that plays big. It is visually stunning and the use of flash paper makes it a real shocker! In addition, it is fairly simple to perform and Ben includes some nice subtleties and variations. DBIB: 9/10 This is a nice “Invisible Deck” type routine. It is extremely easy to perform and gets great reactions. Period. Imitate 1.0, 1.2, 1.3: 7/10 Ben is very creative and offers three versions, all of which are both interesting and visual. Not my favorite effect in the manuscript, but still worthy of a good rating. Your Card My Mouth: 9/10 A great take on the classic “Card to Mouth” effect. I enjoy performing it because every move is simple and justified. It’s a real kicker at the end when the first spectator’s signature appears on the other spectator’s card! Steal: 10/10 I really like this because it allows the magician to cleanly and deceptively steal a selected, signed card. It’s more of a move than a single trick, and it offers endless possibilities for card transposition effects. I Dub Thee/I Dub Thee Mental: 11/10 This is, quite simply, one of the best mentalism effects I have ever come across. It is so easy to perform and, as with all of Ben’s routines, every move is justified. The reactions from this are priceless. Watch My Predictions: 8/10 Nothing revolutionary here, but a powerful effect nonetheless. A nice display of a simple card trick mixed with some of Ben’s creativity! Your Card/Your Card Repeat: 9/10 This is a strong piece of magic that is sure to get great reactions. It is simple and direct, and its use of flash paper really increases the “wow factor.” Very fun to perform. Chain 1.0, 1.2: 8/10 I’m not one for linking card effects, but Chain is a well-thought-out routine that isn’t difficult to perform. If you’re into this type of trick, I am sure you’ll love it! Overall, this is a wonderful manuscript with an abundance of fresh routines and ideas. There is something in here for everyone so it is definitely worth the minimal investment. You won’t be disappointed. Daniel Lachman |

I have had this for about a week now, and while I have not tried everything that is in this, what I have I have been very pleased with.
First off there are 10 effects on this manuscript. That fact alone is a wonderful thing. In this day and age to receive this much material in one shot is a rare thing indeed. So much to look over and play with, but they are not just filler tricks. My favorite so far is Chain. It is a two card linking routine. This one is a simple yet very convincing linkage of two cards that both can be signed. It is not an illusion, the cards are actually linked and hanging. You then unlink them and hand them to the spectator to examine and keep. This got great reactions when I did this for a few friends last night. They had no idea to explain what they saw. Very nice. DBID is another one that I really like. You basically have a spectator name any card they like. You then find that card, and it is the only one with a different back than the rest of the deck, much like an invisible deck. This is very easy to perform, and seems impossible. I also have tried I Dub Thee. This is a very simple mental routine. I don't normally do this kind of stuff, but after watching the reactions I got using this I may try this kind of thing more often. It was a lot of fun. I have not had a chance to try out the rest of material, but I will after I have time to work it out. All in all this is a wonderful read, and very much worth the asking price. Thank you Ben for releasing this! I am very much looking forward to part 2. |

This is definitely one of my favorite ebooks. And that, although I am not the big card shark. That really means a lot.
Maybe it's because all of the effects mainly use the cards as a means to show something really magical. Effects such as Imitate, Heartless and Your card are in fact so visual that they are way out of the ordinary "Pick a card" category. Well done, Ben! This is what card magic should look like! I've not got time for a proper review, but I will say that if the ebook only contained "I Dub Thee" and "Your Card" it would still be a real bargain. I've been rather busy lately and haven't gone all the book properly, but I'll be using them for sure.
To be honest I bought the book before reading what was in it! That's how much I enjoy Ben's magic. Very much looking forward to volume 2. Iain. |
