Palace station runs a shuttle to the strip which is quick and easy to ride. We stayed a TI in the past and caught the shuttle without much trouble. Walking to and from the strip is not safe.

I think what turned some people off of the hotel were the undisclosed fees (the resort fee as disussed in a different post).

Riley, The thing that really bugged me about Palace Station last year, was walking through the corridors filled with cigarette smoke (which I don't recall experiencing in other hotels). As an ex-smoker, I felt like I'd taken it up again!
Aren't most hotels in Vegas now smoke-free? |

^The $17/night "Resort Fee" is still less expensive then taking a cab to/from the strip. Or was when Vegas had tourists...

Thanks for the information on The Palace Station. It does appear to be a strange choice of venue,
I would assume Vegas in November is off season so makes you wonder why an alternative hotel was not chosen that is in a more friendly Location, looking through Trip advisor this hotel hardly gets glowing reviews ! |

Palace Station has several benefits: easy access off I-15 and the Strip, plenty of space for the MINDvention group, relatively cheap meeting room rental, and history with Danny. Hosting the convention anywhere else would result in much higher prices for everyone and almost certainly a change in dates.
Palace Station's basic hotel rooms are low quality, but the meeting facilities are fine for what we need. I always eat at the Palace Station restaurants, which contribute to the casino's bottom line indirectly (they rent their space), but I never stay there. I usually find a hotel with easy access to the freeway so I can zip to and from my hotel to the Palace Station in a few minutes rather than fighting Strip traffic. If you shop around, you can usually find good rental car deals in Vegas. Pick up an air/hotel/car package from Expedia or Travelocity and the discounts get even deeper. The MGM-Mirage hotels have great deals for customers who book 30-90 days in advance, so keep your eyes open. Curt |

And if you are staying at the Palace Station (or any hotel, for that matter), keep an eye on the room rates, which fluctuate like the stock market. Rates for Palace Station dropped 3 times last year from the time I originally booked my room at the 'convention rate.' They did honor the new rates when I requested them (not sure if they'll continue that policy).
But I would concur with Riley that staying at the host hotel is extremely convenient, given the late night sessions (one of which went past 1AM last year!). e |

Can anyone here give me an idea of what to expect for room rates at the hotel where this is taking place?
High and low figures. What sites might have the best prices? We stayed there a few years ago and it was not great, but ok. Anyone try the upgraded rooms? Regards D&D

I just booked yesterday... checking in on sun. the 8th and out on thurs. the 11th ... the cheapest rate the hotel gave me was $181 USD. including taxes and fees. this is for the courtyard. $39 per night plus taxes and fees...which seem extraordinarily high. there are some hotels close by, but according to some posts on this thread its a pretty rough neighborhood, so I opted to stay at the palace station... I checked some online booking sites but couldn't beat the price offered by the hotel directly.
the tower at the palace station was almost double the price of the courtyard. |

If things are as they were in the recent past, just keep watching the room rates.....they will change (up and down), as the date approaches! If you already have your rooms booked, you can change or cancel them and take advantage of the savings.

Just stayed at the Palace Station and I did not find the neighborhood to be rough. It is directly across the street from a Macaroni Grill and some other Seafood chain. There is a McDonalds and 7-11 on the corner for quick food.
PS. The rooms in the renovates tower were nice with flat screen tvs. The pool was ok but nothing special. |

I'll be staying at the Palace Station... but NOT in the cheap part.
I get itchy just thinking about the last time I stayed there... but the new section of the hotel is fine. it's not so much about the late nights... it's just convenient to have a little "retreat" area in between sessions... if you know what I mean. And I always walk with Eric when I leave the hotel. :)
