Use the outfit for the occasion just like you would use the right music for the effect your doing, or the right expected clothing for a funeral. (Well, not that far)
My Costumes Want to find the right costume? Play dressup at all the weird stores, Zoot Shops, Halloween stores, Costume Shops, Malls, Good Will stores (Some weird clothing there), etc.

"I disagree slightly with Dr. Stephen Midnight, and Dennis you don't absolutely need a top hat, tails, and a cape to do magic. All I ask is that you be the best dressed man in the house." Actually we aren't in disagreement. I agree you can do well just dressing well and looking distinctive enough to be recognized as the performer. At the same time, though, children DO have preconceived, media-based images of what a magician looks like, and playing to one of those images (IF it is natural to you) can go a long way to make them happy and receptive. For me it's the Rowling-esque wizard look, a look I only sport when performing for children, or for family events with a 'Harry Potter' theme...like the next upcoming book release. Steve

We will be doing a huge festival the day the book comes out. Oh wells. We will try and tie it in with the movie release in the fall and work that a bit.
