I'm in the process of replacing the labels on a Multiplying Bottles set, this set is made by Uday. The labels the set comes with are terrible, look phony, and are full of air bubbles.
I have all new labels but when I removed the original labels they left a ton of glue behind, anyone have a good way to remove the residue without taking off the finish?

Thanks,
JC

Goo Gone and, hot water and your fingernails.

I am assuming that some of the printing was left behind, that happened with my set. Scrap that off with your fingernail, as that won't scratch the paint. Then, use Goo Gone applied to a folded paper towel and rub it on the residue to break it down, if necessary, use hot water to thin it out as well.

Hope that helps.

I'll give you a secret from the retail industry: a hair dryer. Blow hot air on the labels before peeling them off. It heats up the glue, making it much softer and easier to remove cleanly.

I would second the hair dryer. I had a horrible decal on my car and a hair dryer melted the glue so well that I was able to get under the sticker and work it free with an ordinary business card. One small buff with a damp paper towel and no one would ever know there'd been a sticker there.

Use a gasoline soaked rag to wipe the glue off.

Hopefully the gasoline won't break down the varnish or paint!!

Goof Off. Used to clean up dry latex paint works good for removing sticker residue without damaging other finishes. Find it in the painting section of the hardware store.

Always, always, always, test a small hidden area of the finish to make sure it doesn't damage the finish.

Hello JC:

I've used Goo-Gone and it works very well - I buy it at Walmart, but you can probably get it at your local supermarket or hardware store. I use the Goo-Gone spray bottle and use a terry-cloth rag to take off the residue. I've never had it damage the paint.

Guys great advice, well except for the gasoline idea (I didn't want to burn the house down) ;-)

The hair dryer worked perfect, thanks Scott.
Next I'll try the Goo Gone on the little left over stuff, thanks Matt, Jeff, and Ron.

I have the Uday bodels and only got two performances out of them. They are a very cheaply made set of multiplying bottles, but are great if your not looking for a $400 set. I still have them, and they are still usable, but I find they scratch very easily and the labels begins to come off at the edges.

Im going to have to pick up a good set in the near future.

WD-40 works great. Spray it on and let it soak in. Should clean up well without hurting the finish.

Lyndel, thanks for the link, this is great information.

Maloney, I agree on the Uday bottles.
I'm in the process of creating a new act and I wanted to add a comedy element to my show, the bottles interested me. I didn't want to invest too much not knowing if the routine would work for me or not so I went the cheap route.
Sadly when you purchase on-line dealers don't always reveal the source of the
item.
I hope get a set of Harries bottles in the future if this routine works well in my show.

When I replaced my bottles labels I took of the Martini lable and I took some cooking oil and "polished" the glue off. Then washed them under warm water and dried with towels.

I also want to show what new labels I made. I don't have the picture of the label right now,but I do have a picture of my bottles in action. I will soon add a picture of my label also. ( http://mustkunst.maagilinemaailm.net/uri......-juurde/ )

Thanks,

I second this suggestion, can be purchased a Wal-Mart or your favorite Hardware store. There are other brands, these are made just for this purpose.

If you need new lables, try the Norm Nielsen bottles, he sells his bottle labels separately.

Thanks for the info everyone. I used a hair dryer to remove the label, and the goo gone to take the remaining glue off.
I did buy new labels from Norm Nielsen to replace the originals, they look so much better.

I just found on the Internet this site of the very funny Terry Elton. His comedy is genius and he never fails to get the big laughs.

But I am posting this wonderful discovery. He makes labels for the Multiplying Bottles, all kinds of labels for every type of audience, whiskey, wine and kids. Check this out if you need labels with neck collars. He supplies labels for 9 or 12 bottle sets.

I had the pleasure of seeing Terry perform his classic something nothing and more routine at a convention and I can tell everyone it was very entertaining well received. Great thinking in his work.
Thanks for the link I will use this information.
