The problem is that it slides out far too easily. If I hold the coin by any edge, it starts sliding out on its own. If I drop the coin into my other hand, sometimes the inner portion bounces out, as if the m***** is too weak. I see where other people mentioned having difficulty getting it out, I sort of wish mine was just a tad more difficult to get out. Additionally, I sort of regret getting the c/s one as apposed to the half dollar version, as it seems there's a lot less I can do with it.

Yes, this is not right. It should never bounce out when tossed about.
Does it happen with the Leaf in both positions or just one? Does the edge of the Leaf stick up higher than the edge of the Shell? I have a possible solution, but suggest you contact Marcello (Mr. Tango) and he will replace it or have you take it back to the dealer. There are several C/S effects in T.U.C. Appreciation and other not published. If you eventually get a Slippery Shell there are some exciting things to be done. My biggest problem with any C/S gaff is keeping them all polished to the same look.

Thanks for the reply. I bought your TUC Alchemy, and will check out your other book soon. The leaf sticks out maybe a hair above the rim. It seems like it doesn't bounce out as much if I don't handle it too rough, but I notice it seems to stay in a little better if the copper side is outwards. It seems like it would work better if it was just a little deeper in the Shell and if the m****t was a tad stronger.

I think you will find that the cooper side had a higher relief that the silver.
When the Leaf seems difficult to extract a spacer is place on the Mag to raise it, so you want to reverse the process. I suspect the original square Mag was a bit thinner that the circle one -- or more glue was added. Also make sure you Leaf is not bent. Put it on a table with cloth and pile on a stack of books. A possible solution is to place a small object under the Shell and press downward to flex the center of the Shell up -- but there is a danger of deforming the face of the coin. I would try a sponge ball , then a balled up piece of tissue if that doesn't work. Very little adjustment should be required. In most effects the edge of the coin is never shown, but the "falling out" is a problem. You should be confident in placing one in a spectator's hand. Remember that the ability to toss the TUC about safely is the reason I became interested in the first place.

The only remaining issue is a bit of rattling if it's by itself and not among other coins. It seems to be because the leaf is a tiny bit smaller in diameter than the inside of the shell. As long as I have it with other coins it's fine, I just have to be careful when the coin is by itself because the rattle can give it away. |

I went ahead and picked up a 1964 kennedy TUC and WL TUC since they were on sale a lot cheaper than usual today.

So got the silver half dollar TUC, and it functions perfectly! I'm hoping the WL is as good when it comes in.

Well, the WL TUC was supposed to come in today from Amazon, but inside the packaging was a worn used-looking Kennedy half dollar TUC. I'm a bit cross at Amazon for this, considering I paid extra for faster shipping. Sent it back to Amazon for a replacement.

I just got it and it looked exactly like the DVD that I got with my TUC. I put it in the player and I found they're the same. :-( On Penguin Magic, I had very closely read the text for the DVD that came with it and the sales copy for the 'TUC SECRETS' and they totally appeared as two different DVDs. I now spent $25 for a DVD I already had. Any suggestions? Do I understand this correctly and that the TUC I got two years ago came with "TUC Secrets" DVD? Though I haven't been through the new DVD entirely, so far all the video is the same. Will Penguin refund or allow me to return it? What would the charge be to return? I'll contact them as well, but wanted to mention on here as I searched as much as I could and nothing states on the TUC or "TUC SECRETS" that it comes with the TUC to begin with. PS - Aside from Secrets and Appreciation is there other published material for the TUC available? (that I haven't already purchased) ;-) Thanks so much for everyone's help/input and sharing of ideas. This is a wonderful page to connect! M |

I have a couple of unpublished effects. Drop me a line at ken@eversway.com to discuss.

Incredible certainly. How may reading posts now remember the frenzy to get over 100,000?

I would love to have one in a soft Morgan, but I'm afraid to try and order one. I really would like it to resemble my other Morgans as closely as possible so I guess I would need to supply the coin but I'm not sure how to go about doing that. Also, to be perfectly honest, in my experience the coins produced by Tango often lack an attention to detail and I guess I'm afraid I would be disappointed with it. And it ain't cheap!

It takes three supplied coins to produce a TUC. Others have done so with unique coins from various cultures and been please -- but certainly expensive.
I use fake Morgans with my Morgan TUC and have never had nay problem in performance fro a spectator sensing any difference. This "sameness" desire in perhaps an illusion but, if it is important to you then it will matter in a performance. I am sure Marcello could supply one to closely match a provided coin if you contact him directly. Perhaps some other users can offer experiential insight here. I have never used some of the very expensive sets made by other craftsmen and can't speak to functionality over precision. I have had three of my TUC's stolen by other magicians -- which does speak to their value as a utility device. I ma sure they were taken because of the miracles I performed with them -- not because of their value as a collector item.

Thanks funsway, although I honestly am not sure what you are trying to tell me.
Maybe because I can't get pass the fact that you say you have had 3 stolen! You mention that almost as an aside like it happens to everyone. I've been doing magic for 45 years and I've never once had a prop stolen, let alone by another magician. That's an unbelievable story. Sorry for your bad luck. What's the best way to contact Marcello directly? |
