This article in the Las Vegas Review Journal indicates that there was a look alike stunt double in the box that caught on fire.
http://www.lvrj.com/news/50013082.html Another: http://www.fox5vegas.com/news/19971898/detail.html Since Wyrick's publicist made a statement saying that the stunt man would recover quickly, it seems that this not a planned fire. (Otherwise she would not have made such a statement to the media regarding a stunt double being injured.) Albeit it seems that Wyrick did try to continue on with the publicity stunt with the appearance with the helicopter. Rich |

Hope that stunt double was well-paid and has insurance.

Stunt double... well that explains the curtain. My educated guess is that the double was to act as if he were wyrick visibly making an effort to escape from the box only to escape himself into the top most scaffolding of the structure under cover of the curtain. what is even more intriguing can be seen in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azUkQHA174E
which shows after the fire is extinguish a visible hand pop out from the top most scaffolding of the structure, whom could easily be the said injured person because of how the flames erupted. So my thinking is either this was the supposed double or a second person that was there on top to simply make sure the double got out okay and then manually released the box. Either way this could have ended up a really bad accident. |

Here's the inside scoop...was a poorly planned, unrehearsed stunt that when it went wrong, was then covered up. The stunt man in the box was badly burned AND to "keep the illusion" going he was left in the box with the fumes choking him, his hands and face burned! He asked to be let out, no one let him out! Wyrick indicated to the LA Times that he was only slightly injured and will have a speedy recovery.......Niiiiccce. What a jerk! He needs to accept responsiblity and take care of the guy who really put his butt on the line and got badly burned in the process!

I think the crew was told to carry on with the stunt even if it went terribly wrong. Therefor, they didn't let the guy out while the fire was burning.

If the stuntman is willing to participate in such a shady stunt then there is more to consider here. What stuntman jumps in a box meant to be set on fire without a single rehearsal?
Something isn't right here. J |

I am a friend of said stunt man. He is really getting a raw deal here. He is a lifetime professional stuntman and he and others asked for a rehearsal. Wyrick is covering his butt now by filing a lawsuit against the pyro company. Hmmmmm.... |

There's no amount of money or fame that's worth allowing someone to get hurt in such a way that stuntman did. That's just plain wrong not letting him out of the box when he wanted to. I really do hope he makes a speedy and complete recovery.

I bet this is not finished...
I am sure the Pyro guy will end up suing and getting some damages from Wyrick, as well. I am sure they will settle as Steve will not want even more bad publicity and further damage to his reputation. We will see... As they say - Ir is not over until it is over... |
