On the subject of cold reading:
If you are trying to describe somone's friend who is far away, how would you go about it? Would you describe him as the person in front of you or as their opposite? And what about their dog? I'm not planning on becoming a pet psychic, but if I find that someone has a dog, I would like to be able to tell a few about the dog. Talking about animals, is there away to hypnotise a dog or a cat? I know about hypnotising frogs, rabbits, chickens and lobsters but what about dogs and cats? I keep thinking about that scence in Crocodile Dundee... Yaniv Deautsch |

When reading a friend or relative of someone I don´t know, I always use these two forms:
first I go into each letter of the name of the person I am reading and tell them what I sense in that letter about that person. Like dewey, descibed it in "red hot coldreading" That works fantastic! Even if I don't have the smallest hint about the otherone. After each letter I let a symbol come to my mind: an animal, or driving (flying, floating) vehicle or whatever comes, and make some assosiation and interpretation about that symbol. I very often use that, if I want to demonstrate a reading for someone I've known for a while. So I don't read him, but someone I never ever have seen or heard about. Very amazing . In my opinion it is uninportant if you choose to describe him as the same as him or the opposite. But if you make 2 readings one for him and one about a friend of him, I would say some similar things and some opposite. (as life is ) For animals, I use the same technique, but I ask for the favorite sleeping place of the animal and the age and then go into the technique of the symbol or let a tarot card come to my mind. thomas |

Hi!
Thanks for your reply. The one and only{???}. I think that you misunderstod me. In other words you got me wrong. I was asking how to describe someone that you don't know or see. Like somone is thinking of their best friend or talking with someone over the phone and you need to give information about this stranger{the best friend or the person on the other end of the line} I hope I made myself clear now. Wouldn't you have to be psychic to do this?

Hi Yaniv!
I ment it exactly the way you described it. to read a person that is unknown to you and is not present.(not the one you are talking to) For example: the one you are giving a reading is thinking of his mother, or best friend, or working mate,... and you describe that person. I don´t understand where´s the problem for you. And to poire: No you don´t have to be psychic, only basic coldreading. I am happy to discuss that. Thomas. |

I have been debating on adding to this one! Thomas gave you some pretty good advice! I read it and knew what he was going for. I would recommand getting a copy of Ian's book and Herb's book, mindblowing psychic readings.
Ian's book will give you the skills you need to pull off what you are seeking to do. Herb's book will give you some scripts. The scripts will help you in this case, as over 50% of the best friends will be same sex and about the same age. I have been working with Herb's book, to break down his scripts, to bullet points, so that I can use them for just such readings. I hope that helps you. Kevin |

Those are my favorite 2 books too.
And to them I recomend: Richard Websters " Quick and effective Cold Reading" and his "Quck readings with Numerology" and absolutly wonderful is: Miriam Ruthchild´s " Psychotechniques" Thomas |

It is only my opinion, but if you think that cold reading can be broken down in to memorized scripts, you are on the wrong track. Cold reading is a rapport between two people. It's very different from performing, the focus is on the audience, not the performer.

Actually Ford, I agree with you. I was offering an opinion on when the subject is an unknown, and there is little or nothing to work with, where a few generalized statements would come in handie as a means to gather more information or gain a response. My point for breaking down the scripts, is I have no use for a long script that has to be memorized.
I hope my statement has not offended. kevin |

I assume that, I'm a truly gifted psychic and impressions will come to me. Strangely they nearly always do. I wish I could say they are allways 100% accurate, but they're not. From there I move on to other cold reading techniques. from Ford |

When asked to describe the qualities of someone's friend, you could always describe the qualities of one of your own friends.
