Hello,
I'm thinking about doing a massive mailing for my show. What I want to do is send postcards to the more wealthy neighborhoods in my area. How could I get the postcards to those neighborhoods, with out going there and writing down the house numbers? Thanks in advance, Wayne... |

If you have the time, save the money and deliver them yourself. It might take you a day or two but it will save you a bunch on shipping and purchasing a list.

You simply call a list broker, such as infousa, and ask for the demographics you want, for example household income over $200k, 1 kid, 2 cars, etc... what magazines they subscribe to and more.

Here in Canada you can have ad mail delivered to specific postal codes (zip code)and this can be to a very small well defined area. I would check with your postal outlet.
Or, as above, deliver them yourself or hire a couple of kids to do the door-to-door delivery. B

My phone company AT&T (formerly SBC) sells books with residence names, phone numbers and addresses. It is listed by geographic areas. It has addresses in order up and down the streets.
I also agree with Josh about Infousa. They can send you CDs, mailing labels and listings on a page. I tried going door to door too. Sometimes I paid a crackhead to do it for me. If the city permits soliciting, it is ok to leave the flyer/postcard on a door knob or hand rail with a rubber band. It is illegal to put anything in the residence mailbox whether it is stamped or not. That is the post carrier's job only. If that city does not permit soliciting door to door the police might approach you. I received more calls from the low income areas. But they could not afford the shows. The wealthy areas I receive no call from. I got more approvals to do shows in middle income areas. |

You might try ValPak. They target certain areas and often are much cheaper than you printing and mailing. I used them in another business I owned and they were a very cheap form of advertising based on $'s per lead and $'s per sale.

Dynamike,
I think this is what I'm looking for. Where at ATT do I look? I'm not sure where to go and what to ask for. Wayne... |

Just to add to the mix, I agree with Ralphdean. I always get 'can't you do any better' from the wealthiest people, while middle and lower income people either say ok or that they can't afford my fee. Unless you're a 'name' in your area, I feel that the wealthy are mainly treating you as a trained monkey. (am I bitter....nahh!)
But all seriousness aside, my feeling is that a direct mail would probably not work in a wealthy area for our kind of service. Plus the problem of (assuming that you are going after birthday parties) hitting the people at the right time. you would have to commit to constant mailings. Also, I would imagine that a lot of the wealthiest would go through agencies, rather than calling an individual. I might be wrong. |

Ralphdean and drosenbe0813,
I've been thinking since I posted this topic. I think that I'm going to not do this. You both brought up many very good points. That got me thinking further. This is why the rich get richer, they save dollars to spend a dollar. Wayne... |
