I've never tried either of them before, so I'd like some advice.
Which is better? All I'm trying to do is perhaps levitate small objects or cards. Thanks. |

You can do a lot more with IT. With loops you're kind of limited to what you can do. They both take quite a bit of practice to make the magic.

I started with a hummingbird card which introduced me to IT. With IT, I was able to do a few simple effects with just some practice. I'm now beginning to play a bit with loops and find that they take a LOT of practice to get the hang of. When you first start with loops, they can break easy until you get the hang of them.

I wouldn't say you are limited with Loops. The only thing you cannot do is walk right away from the object which you are working with, which you shouldn't really be doing in a close up set anyway.
Once you get the hang of loops they will be the most valuable thing you carry around with you. There are very few things that you can do with normal IT that you can't do with Loops provided you have the right hookups.

Loops are great for impromptu work, especially terrorizing waitresses. They can be easily worn and largely forgotten about. You can learn pretty quickly their limits and lighting requirements. I wear two every day and have a lot of fun with them. But, I would agree , that overall thread and a thread reel give you a lot more possibilities, especially in non impromptu work.

Loops are very visible on your wrist, so if the spectator looks to your hands they will see them. I don't really like loops, but maybe that's just because I don't know how to use them really.

My experience is quite the opposite. Loops are not visible on your wrist unless the audience knows what to look for. The "reset" is very transparent.
However for all IT works; either IT, IET or Loops; lighting and distance is very important. Otherwise, it will expose. |

Grow some hair on your arms and they become invisible :o)

If you think you will be performing impromptu more often than not, I would suggest you start with the loops. If cost is a constraint and time isn't, you can make (extract) your own invisible thread. Google it. I am not sure about constructing your own loops though.

Ok, thanks for the help.
I've decided to try loops |

Visibility really depends on lighting. And not just how "bright" it is in the room but the quality of the light. Sometimes it is very easy to see the work othertimes it is almost impossible. When I am about to do my routine I do a quick check and if I don't feel confident that I am invisible, I do other tricks instead.
You can make your own loops. |

Father Photius's experience with thread is what I have experienced as well. The Loops DVDs are wonderful if you need help with loops and a set up for fair-skin people or close-up television shots, etc.
Why is it that on one side of the world a person looks at a picture of the Grand Canyon and says, "it looks so real." At the same time on the other side of the world a person looks at the Grand Canyon and says, "it looks like a picture."
