Hey all you pickers. The voices in my head have decided that I need a wah wah. They're cool, but I've never had one, and maybe it's time.
So what do you recommend? The basic Cry-baby? Or one of the many signature models? Or maybe one of the less known brands? Obviously there will be compromises between sound, durability and price. Any advice is welcome. John

What are you willing to spend?
Do you have any other effects pedals? |

I have the good old cry baby GCB-95. I love it.
I've been told that the Zakk Wylde cry baby has more high end than the classic style.

Do you have any other effects pedals? I play mostly blues and jazz; I normally only appeal to overdrive and chorus. I also have one of those "multi-effects" units but don't use it much. I don't know where the sudden urge to wah came from, but I think I'll go with it. John

I used an old, Cry Baby Wah-Wah pedal for years. I liked it a lot! I'm sure there are many other ones on the market now with upgraded features, so I would try some out.

I use an old Morley Wah/Volume pedal from the 80s.

Morley rules. I have the Morley and Cry Baby nothing beats them for that late night blues soaked raunchy sound.I also have a Dunlop rack mount wah that I always use when recording and live it's more versitile and gives me both the Morley and Cry Baby sound but not as raunchy which is cool if you want or need a more refined sound. If you got the money the Rocktron Xpress, another rack mout effect, is versitile as all hell and it has a killer wah wah sound.
Peace

I vote for a 2nd hand Morley. Lots got sold when people went digital/multiple effects board.

Well, I guess the question has been answered. Morley and Cry Baby are both good for what you want based on the fact that you are into blues.
Buying second hand may be a good option. All the equipment I had in my younger years were bought second hand from bands who split up, guys who lost interest in playing or people moving up in life and buying the most expensive tings only to sell the good ones and low prices. If you live close to a University, put a sign up on the notice board. The sound from both are good for blues. Durability cold be a problem because you wouldn't know who did what to the pedal before you got it but that should be countered by the fact that you can probably buy three used ones for the price of one new one. |

Thanks all. I'll be checking out both the Morley and the Crybaby. Sound is of course important and you guys have narrowed my search. The other is durability, and since you've been playing your Morleys and Crybabys as long as you have, my confidence is up.
I'm not much of a gearhead, so I've just never bothered with having more than a couple of effects. This could be the start of a whole new addiction. Cheers. John
